Realtor giving this a big thumbs down.

By Mark  Jan 15, 2008 | 1 out of 2 found this Magellan Maestro 3140 review helpful

    Pros: Blue-tooth works well.

Cons: Where do I start. 8 of 10 times stoped at wrong address.

First I sell Real Estate and drive to approx 20-30 houses a week. I originaly bought the 3140 because it has multi-point mapping which means I can input 20 houses at once and it will map to all of them at one time and in the most efficient order from... the starting point. Ok here we go... one day after I bought it I was showing houses and the car charger cord stopped working and the 3140 battery died immediately. It takes several days of driving before it will fully charge by the way. Battery life 3 hours non-charger. I thought oh well that happens. I called Magellan and argued with the rep while I was calm just to get a new cord. No. 2 charger cord....died 1 week later. I'm currently on my third charger cord. 8 out of 10 (I kept track trust me) houses the 3140 said "You have arrived" and I was at the wrong house and sometimes as far away as 2 blocks. I was showing houses 1 week ago and had to figure out how to get to a street that the 3140 mapped to the wrong street. The maps are old and I tried to update the maps but you can't per magellan. Each time I called Magellan I could not understand the rep. I am not happy with the 3140 at all and plan to complain to the highest level at Magellan. I will not purchase another GPS from them ever. I hope this helps anyone considering buying from Magellan. Read more Less

Maestro 3140 is a good beginner GPS unit

    By Paul K  Jun 24, 2008

    Pros: Bluetooth,AAA help,feature packed,very bright

Cons: Battery lasts 1 hour, not big finger friendly

I bought this as my first GPS unit. I wondered how steep the learning curve would be, but realized it was relatively easy to use. I have owned it for a year and have yet to have any problems. Addresses are easy to find and input when making a route. ...They can also be simulated for accuracy if you so desire. The map data is accurate from the 3rd quarter of 2006. I just recently used it in Canada, and found a new highway that opened up but was not on the unit. Except for that one instance, I have yet to have it NOT find an address I input. Some of the addresses may be up to 100 yards off I have discovered, but not many. If you are in an area with many building huddled together, this could be frustrating, BUT they do put numbers on the outside of buildings, so that has never hindered me. These two flaws are ALSO evident on units owned by coworkers: a Garmin Nuvi 650 and a TomTom One. Overall I am very happy with this unit. I have no idea why some of these ratings are so low. Maybe these people could never set the clock on their VCR's either... Read more Less
