Mad Dogs and Englishmen is the collaborative effort between Joseph Porter from Blyth Power and the Miller brothers of Whisky Priests fame. All residing from Northern areas of England, their music takes on that regional flavor. Mad Dogs and Englishmen released their debut Going Down with Alice in 2000 shortly after the Whisky Priests announced that they would cease to be, at least for the foreseeable future. Unlike the frenetic, electric-folk nature of both Blyth Power and Whisky Priests, this group decided to accentuate the acoustic with the accordion playing of Glenn Miller, Porter's acoustic guitar and percussion and Gary Miller's mandolin and acoustic guitar. Porter and Gary Miller share both songwriting and lead vocal detail. While their music still possesses an obvious urgency, it is done so without electric guitar, bass, and drums, staples for both of the bands from which these members came.
