Pros: excelent sound, wide range of applications

Cons: caused older sioftware that i love (Vision Studio pro) to be unstable. In my particular case - inadequate support.

I bought the AP2496 around 3 years ago. I was using a G3 jumpered to 400 mHz and very good (older) software, Studio Vision pro 4.5. At some point i began getting crashes and traced it to the AP2496 and Delta Control panel etc. With the card out, and ...running sound through the Mac default Sound manager, I had a stable setup. -------- When i got the card the specs were that it would do fine on OS 9 or maybe 8.6 (I think back then i was running 8.6) and a G3 was said to be OK. ------- When i began getting crashes it was very frustrating. I LOVED the sound from the 2496. I had e-mail correspondence and eventually long telephone conversations with a vey nice guy from M-Audio, but the problem was never really solved. I don't think they really knew what the 2496 would do on a G3 and the older software. ------- So - I have the 2496 installed on my G4 now - but, i'm still using Vision on the G3 - and - looking for an audio card that is definitely stable with that particular setup. The delta 410 (which for some reaosn is actually cheaper than the 2496) is currently advertised as being OK with OS 8.6 and a Beige G3 running at 300 mHz. I see it for around $77 Bottom libe is - the M-Audio delta AP2496 now sells for under $100. It's basically a well made well functioning audio card with RCA L R IN & OUT, and S/PDIF IN & OUT and MIDI IN & OUT. Get the most recent drivers free download from M-Audio. Read more Less
