Silly, Fun, Good Beat. Pop and Bowie Rock

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 29, 2007

Pros: Unique and fun to listen to

Cons: Not typical top 40 if that is what you are into

The best way I can classify this is something unique. Iggy Pop and David Bowie and other musicians jam and it is apparent they are having fun doing it. That cruise commerical on TV plays the "Lust For Life" chorus as their background music.... I wonder how many know the actual lyrics and that in itself gives me a chuckle. It has a nice beat. I put this CD on when I am kicking around the house and want a "pick me up" atmosphere. I like it. I have no regrets on the purchase. This is the only Iggy Pop CD I own so I am not sure how it compares to other works of his. I do know he has been around for ages and he is a little "out there" but that adds to the charm. I am not one for manufactured music and top 40 nonsense. If you like David Bowie and Iggy Pop this would be a nice addition to your collection. Read more Less

    Ahhhh....the Ig

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 23, 2003

    Pros: It's Iggy Pop

Cons: It's Iggy Pop without Ron Ashton

The album is great. Not as good as any Stooges stuff. Anybody else find a smiling Iggy on the cover disturbing?

    Here comes Success...

I agree wholeheartedly with everyone who says Lust for Life isn't as good as the Stooges stuff, that goes without saying. However someone reviewing this said that Bowie neutered him - well didn't he also 'neuter' (I hate that word, but I'll use it fo...r reference) Iggy on Raw Power, and that is regarded as THE punk album. If it hadn't been for Bowie's help, Iggy Pop might not be here today. However David did not only save his life but near-resurrected his career. 1977 saw an extraordinary burst of creativity, beginning with the dark, brooding, electro-rock of 'The Idiot' - a scary, and indeed uncommercial, start to a solo career if ever I heard one. Only a few months later, Lust for Life was recorded in just 6 days in Berlin. This album is a classic in Iggy's solo roster, a positive statement of intent, telling the world I'm still alive, and still rocking. The album benefits from a ragged sound quality, but the anger and hatred that characterised the Stooges work is replaced with bounding, irresistable energy as testified by 'Lust for Life', 'Success', 'Some Wierd Sin'. Iggy benefits from a talented backing band including the Sales brothers (ex-Todd Rundgren group) as rhythm section, and guitar by Ricky Gardiner (who co-wrote the Iggy classic, 'The Passenger'). Bowie also plays, but his backing vocals are even better, utterly depraved and complimenting Iggy Pop's energy perfectly. It's a great listen, but even has its darker moments, despite Pop's new-found lust for life; 'Tonight' describes his girl turning blue and dying (no doubt of heroin) while 'Neighbourhood Threat' is as menacing as the title suggests. Lust for Life is certainly more commercial than the Stooges work. However his continued creativity was once again in evidence in 1977, and Lust for Life should stand as his finest solo moment - an album packed with good tunes, but it still brims with raw energy and packs quite a punch. For diehard Stooges fans who only buy one Iggy solo album, make sure this is the one! Read more Less

Your not old enough to call this Iggy's best. Have you seen the Stooges at the Grande in Detroit? Do you own all the early Stooges LP's? I agree there are some good songs on this LP but the IG is still neutered here. At the time of this recording he... had but one nut left and Bowie was trying to pry that loose. Do you want to get rocked and shaken to the core? Raw Power/Funhouse/The Stooges. LP's before Iggy frightened the industry into shackeling him. Read more Less

    Iggys finest hour.

His singing here is at its best, and the album contains his twobest songs, Lust for life and The Passenger. The subject matter is Herion for a lot of the time, (turning blue for example) but this is not a sad album. Iggy may by now have lost some of ...his lust for life but in 1977 he was definately up for it.Mail me about Iggy Pop at garethpenrod@yahoo.com Read more Less
