Pro Reviews: Lucifer Rising [2CD]

  • All Music Guide

Bobby Beausoleil's soundtrack works well enough in the context of Kenneth Anger's spooky experimental short film, complementing Anger's surreal/occult imagery with dramatic instrumental progressive rock. On its own, it's not as interesting; it sounds kind of like alsoran cosmic Krautrock that takes itself pretty seriously. It's also not as striking as the eerie instrumentals that Jimmy Page recorded with Lucifer Rising in mind (available on bootleg). [Arcanum's 10 track, 2CD edition was issued in 2004.]
