Universal's Love Songs is not a greatesthits collection nor a definitive look at the career of Johnny Gill, but rather a sampler of some of his finer moments in the ballads department. Spanning his three releases on Motown, Love Songs does include many of his wellknown hits, including "My My My" and "Let's Spend the Night." As a bonus, it also includes "Can You Stand the Rain," which is unquestionably his finest moment as member of RB powerhouse group New Edition. While most diehard fans will already own all of these songs (and quite possibly know the lyrics verbatim), it's a nice sampler for those looking to reflect on Gill's career as one of the dominant male RB vocalists of the '90s.
