Babyface is a guy who really has a gift of writing love songs to the extremes of the spectrum. He can write a song of deep love and a song of deep hurt and they would be so strong that it's like he's experiencing those feelings (in real life) as he s...ings (He isn't too bad as a pop artist but I am an R&B fan at heart). I'm glad that he was able to put them together for those that don't have his old albums, so they can be appreciated. Currently, slow songs are almost synonymous with making love and sex and breaking up is seen as a nasty event where no love is lost. We need artists like Babyface to remind us that love is a human FEELING not a human ACTION. Also, that breaking up isn't always nasty and spiteful but it can be heartbreaking and painful (emotioally) for men as well as women. I don't think this will be the last "greatest hits" album. I see him putting together greatest hits albums for next generations just as Quincy Jones and Luther Vandross are doing since he seem to have endless songs about that thing called love. If you are really into RHYTHM AND BLUES, then get this album. Read more Less

Pro Reviews: Love Songs

  • All Music Guide

Babyface is famed for his love songs, so it only makes sense that Epic released a collection of his finest, or at least most popular, love songs. This is not the same thing as a greatest hits and there are several big items that are missing, but since many of his very biggest songs were indeed love songs, this may be of interest to many fans. It captures his smooth essence quite well, while featuring such hits as "This Is for the Lover in You," "For the Cool in You," and "Whip Appeal." Not a definitive overview, and certainly not all of his best music, but a fine listen all the same.

As a singer, producer, and songwriter, Babyface was an inescapable presence in virtually every major facet of pop music during the '90s. His own recordings helped rejuvenate the RB tradition of the smooth, sensitive, urban crooner and made him a staple of urban contemporary radio. Yet their considerable success was eclipsed by his songwriting and production work for oth... Read more
