For anyone desiring a worthy introduction to the art of classic turntablism, drum and bass production, and creative sound making within the electronic genre, Mixmag Magazine's Drum and Bass Series "Lost in Drum N'Bass: featuring Doc Scott, a.k.a. Scott McIlroy, is a great sonic masterpiece. A member of the famed metalheadz crew, http://www.metalheadz.co.uk/, Doc takes his original mix of jungle and ambience to record highs here. The album kicks off with a triumphant march of amen breaks, rolls continuously through a highly dancable set, and kicks out at the end with some killer beats that form the beginning of the ever-prevalent two-step/tech-step movement today. Doc's ability to mix melodic ideas with classic U.K. breakz and bass, much like his label-mates goldie, peshay, and dillinja, make him the first and foremost in the young forum of jungalism.

Few producers or DJs can ride the drum'n'bass wave from light to dark without fear of wipeout. On his second official mix album, recorded for Mooonshine, Doc Scott accomplishes this mission with a collection of tracks spanning the cream of nu-dark jungle (Decoder, Jonny L, Cybotron Featuring Dillinja) plus a raft of jazzier tracks (Lemon D, Adam F) and even nods to certifiable drum'n'bass classics (Hokusai's "Red Lights," Omni Trio's "Trippin' on Broken Beats"). Lost in Drum'N'Bass is not only an excellent mix album, but a great summation of the jungle scene circa 1998.
