Pros: Two CD's of music, great liner notes.
Cons: Wanted more....
This disc set is a great listen. With gems like these left behind during recording sessions, it leaves no question to the greatness of PJ. As someone stated before , it's about time PJ gets some recognition as on of the great bands of our time.
In a musical world full of over-marketing, pop, hip-hop, and 1 album wonders PJ seems to keep moving forward releasing one great rock album after another. They are leaving a musical legacy like Led Zeppelin did in the seventies.
All in all this album is great for the diehard fan as well as a casual fan based on the strength of the songs included.
Pros: Excellent remixes
Cons: I like the older DIRTY FRANK a little better
Awesome for the full out fan or the casual PJ listener. I had most of these anyway, but I love the remixes with or without more/less lyrics. BROTHER instrumental is incredible!!
Pearl Jam, oh you saved my life!
Pros: Previously unheard material that sounds fresh.
Cons: Not enough room for other favorite rarities.
These CD's are great. Some fans may be saddened by the fact that not every cover or rare track is on here, but there would need to be about 3 more CDs to fit every B-side type track they've ever done. This is a good selection with stuff I've never heard before, and I've heard a lot. Each CD has its own feel, one harder, the other more accoustic. I love the fact that they threw on some old X-mas singles, and included a booklet with comments about each song. A must for a diehard fan, and highly recommended for those looking for a reason to believe in them again.
Pros: Two full cd's, can listen to the whole set without wanting to fastforward a single song
Cons: none
This is a great cd-set for the true Pearl Jam fan.
Pros: A lot of new stuff
Cons: A lot of old stuff that real fans already have
Great collection. Any PJ fan will love it. Really love how they put a little explanation on the liner notes about each song. i've been a fan for many years, and I was glad to hear some of these songs again. It really baffles me that most of these songs never made it onto an album. Yellow Ledbetter still stands as the best song ever written, and Jeff's tribute to his parents, Other Side, could easily have been the best song on Riot Act. I could go on for hours, but I'll just say that this album is perfect.
Pros: New Pearl Jam Songs to Love
Cons: Could Be Even Longer
I am sitting here listening to the second disc right now, and I am in awe! These songs that PJ decided not to put on their albums are head and shoulders above every thing but maybe the singles on most albums of todays bands!
Pros: buy it.
Cons: don't not buy it.
quit whining about having bought 20 singles over the years. you werent gonna sell those singles anyway and they've been our secret long enough. yes we've known half the songs on lost dogs for years but there's a lot of new material on here, too. and some of the stuff you know isnt the version you know. wash sounds remixed, alone changed again, drifting is different (no merry xmas and the word damn's absence makes me think its being groomed as a single), dirty frank is longer, no vocals on brother... lots of little differences. lots of absences, too. there's no collaborations, no merkinball, no singles sndtrk, no doors reunion, no angel, no crazy mary, no sonic reducer, no olympic platinum, no ramones, no who, no i've got a feeling, etc... and of course some of the secrets getting out sting a little. i didnt want the general population having bee girl or let me sleep. the new stuff has its ups and downs. some of the songs (see sweet lew) was/were b sides for a reason. some weren't. some of it's strong. there's a hidden song. always a plus. it's good, but it's no say hello to heaven. hold on is not a tom waits cover. the vs-vitalogy years are underrepresented, but they were tourning their balls off, so i guess that makes sense. k, i'm done. buy it. the end. ps, yes i noticed my overuse of the word absent. ts. absent. absence. absentee. absentia.
Pros: Second Disc
Cons: Eddie-less songs
The second disc is some of Pearl Jams greatest stuff. Somebody has GOT to finally acknowledge this band as one of the all time greats. Hopefully, this album will help.
Pros: Newly relased material
Cons: Not necessarily new material
Although I have not yet purchased this album, much of it I already know and love. This double set includes all of the compilation album singles, like "Leaving Here" from the Art of Self Defense album for women.
Also included are the Xmas singles that fans aren't getting if you're not in the fanclub (shame on you).
Some recent kickbacks from the Riot Act Sessions and others are on there, like "Down", "Undone", and "U". Those were included on some of the singles that Ed and company have put out to support their recent slew of incredible albums. Some rare gems like "Angel" make this set worth it on their own.
Bottom line: This is what you need to have whether you're a collector or if you just want to see what some bands claim weren't good enough to make the album. Of course, now we can all go sell of our compilation albums that we bought just for these PJ rarities.
Pros: Layne Staley Tribute Song
Cons: Everything else
Eddie Vedder said if Bush got elected he would move out of the country. So Eddie, why the F*** are you still here?!?! Don't let the door hit you on the way out, you prick.

As for an album review, it's pretty simple. A bunch of crap that was not worthy of an album. And they are sharing it with us? Gee, thanks... The only thing worth listening to is the song that was written as a memorial to Layne Staley. Too bad it is a hidden track, as if to say, "yeah, we are hiding anything decent so you have to EARN the right to hear it." Again, thanks guys.
Pros: songs never heard
Cons: no sonic reducer
As the sole surviving band from the Big Five of Grunge (incl. Soundgarden, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins and Alice in Chains), Pearl Jam continues to show the world that they've never stopped growing - forsaking the limelight of commercialism for the sake of art, themselves, and most importantly their fans.
If you're a Jamhead like me, you've probably already gotten a hold of a good number of these tunes from CD singles, the Ten Club, or other nefarious means. But there's so much here that hasn't been released, it's definitely worth picking up. It seems as though there's enough outtakes from the last few records to make a complete album, but true Pearl Jam connoisuers know that each record has a distinct tone and some of the songs just don't fit.
And some of those are their best. "Black Red Yellow", "Drifting", "Hard to Imagine" and "Strangest Tribe" are some of their best songs. "Gremie Out of Control" cracks me up every time I hear it. "Crazy Mary" is a definite fan favorite, as is "Yellow Ledbetter" (they seem to have gone with the original mumbling version instead of the re-recorded one unfortunately). The great thing about this collection is that it shows the band's eclectic side, their creativity in realms far beyond pop music's lowest common denominator.
There are a few good rarities that didn't make the cut, but the glaring omission here is "Sonic Reducer". They do, however, include "Last Kiss", but not "I Got Id". And there's a hidden track there - the tribute to Layne Staley comes on after the last song on the second disc.
All in all, it's a great package for fans and collectors. An opportunity to get these rare tunes with a clean sound is something every diehard Jamhead has been waiting for.
Pros: Solid songs
Cons: What's a con?
Features classic rarities like Dirty Frank, Hard to Imagine, Wash, U, and Footsteps. The new B-side from Riot Act, Down, is also included, and would have been one of the best songs had it been included on that album. Pearl Jam's biggest hit (according to the Billboard charts) is featured as well, that hit being Last Kiss. One more incentive to buy this double album is Yellow Ledbetter, which is a fan favorite and concert closer. And one more added feature, a ton of never before released songs. This is a collection of songs that can be truly appreciated by a die-hard Pearl Jam fan, but the casual listener will undoubtedly enjoy this as well.
