Brothers Víctor Hugo Acuña and Cesar Acuña began playing popular music in a band known as the Jeekstones, later called los Benkers. These two bands marked the beginning of one of the most popular Latin pop outfits of the 1970s. Los Pasteles Verdes emerged in 1973 comprising singer German Laos, guitarist Hugo Acuña, keyboardist Cesar Acuña, drummer Jorge Luis Principe, bassist Miguel Moreno, and percussionist Juan Vásquez. Singer Aldo Guibovich joined in 1974. Their first hit, called "Angelitos Negros," anticipated their debut album Recuerdos de Una Noche. After touring all over Latin America, the Peruvian ensemble settled in Mexico for more than a decade.
