The lightening and brightening of Smog's viewpoint continues on "Look Now," a two-song gem that rivals the beauty and clarity of any of the songs on Knock Knock. "Look Now" is one of Bill Callahan's sunniest songs, with the quietly insistent refrain "I don't know what you all are waiting for" lifted by double-tracked vocals, acoustic guitar and a subtly happy piano melody. "The Only Mother" is darker and more urgent, its childhood recollections propelled by just spare guitar and drums. Smog's singing and songwriting talents grow with every release, and "Look Now" provides another glimpse into Callahan's talent.
