    Provacativeness other's won't touch

You've all seen the Skinamax/HBWoe/Woetime late evening thing about the guy that sleeps with the Baby sitter, etc. What I like about Lolita is that it taps into this same desire in a much deeper, artistic, way as to bring to light the deep intracaci...es in these characters and make a social comment about a topic most are afraid to discuss.Young girls are taught to be flirtacious and cute. They are modeled this by their real life and media role models. Yet men are supposed to not be aroused by them. What is disturbing about this film is that they make this girl arousing. Unfortuneately I don't think most people look deeper into why they are aroused. They write it off by saying what a sick character the guy is as a way to cover for their arousal. This movie raises a lot of impportant questions about sex, age, lonliness, and paranoia. Read more Less

    Very Moving

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. It truly got to me. Some parts were indeed disturbing, but they don't detract from the picture, they only show how desperate and sad the story really is. Jeremy Irons is heart wrenching and the rest o...f the cast also give good performances. Also has quite a beautiful score and gorgeous cinematography. Read more Less

    Lolita

This movie I would recomend to all people who like non comercial movies.Great acting of both of main actors, and also story very well told with many details which all fit perfectly into the movie.A bit different from the book, because Nabocov created... Lolita as litle girl who doesnt know what is going on and who is still a child, and here Lolita is curious provocative, and innocently brutal. The only reason I gave 4 instead 5 is the end.A bit too dramatic and too much made to make great end.Anyway, a great movie which I would recomend to all of you. Much better than Kubrick's Lolita

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 22, 2003

    Pros: Follows EXACTLY the book

Cons: Lolita should have been younger

This is definitely better than '62 Kubrick version, although Nabokov himself wrote the screenplay for that one. Such a masterpiece as Lolita is difficult to transpose in a movie, but this is the closest you can get. Music is also great. Is the sa...me great class as "The hours". Read more Less

Not as good as the original

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 11, 2001

The original movie had much more substance. The original, though in black and white, captures everything and more than the book that started it all. I'm talking of course of Kubrick's Lolita. Some of the scenes in Lolita (1997) seem forced or unna...tural. (especially Melanie Griffith's performance) Read more Less

    Irons for President

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 17, 2000

He has this sexually depraved character down (and i will keep watching his movies.) I've never seen original nor read book, but this movie is pretty intense (and high production values.)There are scenes in this movie that make you cringe; is he real...ly doing this? why does he keep continuing? he's gone too far hasn't he? how will he ever get away with this? The ending is a tad "hollywood"-ish (afterall, what is a movie w/o some gun violence) but nothing too crazy that it ruins the film.Good disturbing stuff.
