Pros: EXCELLENT PRICE. If you have never had a real sound system for your computer, The X530 will BLOW YOU AWAY.
Cons: No where near as powerful as the more expensive model. BASS knob on back of subwoofer.
I bought these speakers for my uncle using my employee discount at BEST BUY. They costed me $55 with tax. We also picked up a 17inch HP f1703 LCD monitor for $200 clearance and a 24bit, 5.1 Creative Labs sound card for $25 that normally costs $50.
He was getting the MASSIVE UPGRADE.
Until he got these, he was using the factory issue speakers that came with his Hewlett Packard computer system. Needless to say, these suckers were VASTLY SUPERIOR.
After I got all the software for the sound card installed, I had to install the software for the speakers. Everything installed quickly and without a hitch.
I won't get too technical here but suffice to say...
the X530's sound GREAT if your a newbie to the world of 5.1 sound.
My uncle can't believe the difference in sound quality between the two crappy, subwoofer-less speakers his monitor came with and the Logitechs.
I love the sound too, when I compare it with my first Altec Lansing 4 piece subwoofer 30 watts system.
All he listens to is Jazz and alternative with his AOL radio subscription and I think he wouldn't trade them for anything.
The downsides of the X530 are few considering its price.
#1 the system's BASS knob is on the BACK of the Subwoofer rather than the main speaker where the power/ volume and surround sound parity knobs are. If it was too much to put it on the speaker's face, they could have just placed the knob on the Sub's front.
#2 the logitech has less than 200 Watts of power, but that is forgivable for listening to Mp3's.
#3 The speakers are easy to tip over and unless I'm wrong, they didn't include suction cups. You could of course go out and find some if you happen to want to attach them to your glass table.
#4 The speakers have a measly mesh covering them. I would perfer a thin aluminum or metal covering to protect them better.
#5 the 2 satellite speakers aren't very powerful. If I had to guess, their maximum output isn't more than 5 watts. When listening to music, they provide supplemental sound only but don't really have the output that the left and right channels have.
Personally, I would perfer the KLH Klipsch 5.1 to the Logitechs simply because of the power. It is of course almost $300 more than the X530's though. The $130 2.1 Klipsch package is much more powerful and sounds better than the logitech but, only if your listening to rap music. rap doesn't require 5.1 in my opinion. However, if you listen to classical and watch DVD's alot, you will perfer the 5.1 sound.
True Audiophiles should stear clear from the X530's due to their relatively low specs but at less than $100, they are a steal and a must-have iif you just purchased a $600 budget PC. In fact they probably would provide hours of enjoyment if you have a DVD ROM and download from Itunes or MP3 websites. They will totally change the way you feel about your computer's music capability.
The only thing to remember is that you MUST have a 5.1 sound card to use these. ...
