Based in Southern California, fivepiece indie rock band Local Natives made quick waves at SXSW with their sweeping orchestral songs and celebratory swagger. Bearing musical similarities to Grizzly Bear, Fleet Foxes, Vampire Weekend, and Arcade Fire, their ride toward mainstream success picked up momentum when their song "Airplanes" was featured in an episode of the NBC sitcom Chuck. Before signing to a label, the band made plans to release its debut album, Gorilla Manor, in early 2009.
