Synopsis: Living Single - The Complete First Season (2006)
Synopis: Rapper Queen Latifah broke into acting with her role as Khadijah James, the brassy editor and publisher of an urban monthly magazine, Flavor. The popular FOX sitcom LIVING SINGLE revolved around Khadijah and her group of friends, five other young, single, smart, professional African-Americans including her innocent cousin Synclaire, gold-digging gossipy Regine (Kim Fields), sharp-tongued lawyer Maxine Shaw, friendly handyman Overton, and handsome businessman Kyle. The combination led to a lot of backstabbing, white lies, outrageous situations, and romance, but behind it all, the friends stayed loyal and supportive. The intelligent writing and characterizations won the show two NAACP Image Awards.User Reviews: Living Single - The Complete First Season

Pros: Great show finally on DVD, Episode Selection,
Cons: Little Special Features, Weird Packaging, No Queen Latifiah in Featurette Interview
Fox's popular sitcom Living Single finally comes to DVD. The show itself was groundbreaking combining a talented African-American cast, equally interesting characters, and sharp writing.
Big time actress Queen Latifah heads the cast as Khadijah, the editor in chief of her own struggling magazine called Flava. Kim Coles plays her at times ditsy cousin Synclaire, Kim Fields plays the self-proclaimed diva Regine, and Erika Anderson plays the shark of a lawyer Maxine Shaw. Terrance "TC" Carter and John Henton round out the cast as Kyle Barker and Overton Jones.
The show puts the characters in interesting situations while they engage in funny commentary about life, love, and relationship. The characters are never lost in exaggerated urban dialect but at the same time they are relatable. This was a rarity in television at the time and still is today. The chemistry between the cast is undeniable.
I have a couple of bones to pick about this DVD. It has nothing to do with the show and more with the FOX network. There is only one special feature, a sort of brief featurette featuring interviews with the cast. It's nice to see the cast, but Queen Latifiah oddly is not interviewed. I cannot fathom why they wouldn't include the main star of the show even if there were scheduling conflicts. It would have been nice to see behind the scenes clips, bloopers, maybe even a screen test or two. But no, just a little featurette but it is still worth it. Hopefully whenever season 2 comes out, Fox will take it into consideration.
The sound is pretty good, the image is pretty good... nothing remarkable about it.
Overall, a worthy purchase to add to your DVD collection. ...
