Pro Reviews: Live on Deck

  • All Music Guide

This is the fourth release by Germany's Claymore. It boasts more of the indulgent, great big arena-rock meets Celtic-rock sound of their first three albums. These live tracks sound essentially like their studio takes, however, the inventiveness and creativity found in spurts on Into the Wind is noticeably absent here. Instead Live on Deck is mostly overblown pop/rock with only the Scottish accents providing the interesting moments. Had this band existed 20 or even ten years earlier perhaps they would have raised the eyebrow of a record executive or two. As it is this band is making mediocre music that is at least a decade behind the musical curve.
