    THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 2, 2001 | 1 out of 1 found this Live at the Acropolis review helpful

SANTORINI-Very well written. The brass players did a GREAT job. The piano parts tend to remind me of John Tesh's Avalon piece.KEYS TO IMAGINATION-This piece has a strong Mexican style to it. Heavy percussion. Along the line you get this Oboe solo (I ...think its an oboe) that introduces the Saudi Arabian part of it. The violin solo then ends the piece unexpectedly. THE RAIN MUST FALL-In this song, the energy builds with the song. In the begining, the left hand is doing most of the work and pushing the piece along. Then, it evolves to where you get a country music like piano style. From there, you enter into the bass solo. I tend to think of the bass solo as the climax. A bass didn't really play it though. Yanni just put his keyboard into some bass groove mode. But its still awesome. Finally, the song ends with another violin solo.ACROYALI/STANDING IN MOTION-Why the heck did they stick the boring Acroyali with the Standing in Motion? Oh well. Standing in Motion is just an AWESOME piece. Standing in Motion (not Acroyali) has basically two different sections. One of which introduces the side of humans that are dark and desperate. The other part expresses the energy and wonder that humans possess. GREAT PERCUSSION. The end of the piece tends to introduce more modern musical phrases.ONE MAN'S DREAM-This is a very moving piece. It tends to be more classical than new age. But its the way it is written that makes this piece so unique.WITHIN ATTRACTION-I have this friend that won't stop making fun of me because I won't stop listening to music without words. She says wordless music was boring. She immediately fell in love with this piece. Wonderful percussion. Amazing violin duet played be Karen Briggs and Shardad Rohani. However, the techniques used are so complicated sometimes, its hard to tell which notes they are playing. NOSTALGIA-Very moving piece. Not much to say here. SWEPT AWAY-This piece starts out with a piano solo. It tends to remind me of the grace of dolphins and other fast sea creatures. Then, somewhere in the middle, Latin musical phrases are used to begin a transition to another part. In the middle of the transition, you have the basses ad libbing and the brasses playing some modern fanfare. Then the percussion kicks in. Near the end of the percussion solo, six cords commonly used in game shows are used to end the transition. Then you enter the section with the piano and xylophone solo. This part tends to remind me of the sea floor and sea shells. This section ends, then a violin solo comes to take over. This is my favorite violin solo. Not too complicated but not too simple. At the end of the violin solo, the bass ad libbing comes back and so does the modern brass fanfare. Then you have the piano solo that started the piece and it eventually leads to the Latin part and ends the piece. Overall this is a VERY energetic piece.REFLECTIONS OF PASSION-Beautiful. Just beautiful.ARIA-This was in my CD but not others. Anyways, aria is really a French opera. The synthesized version is just plain cheesy and corny. This version is just amazing after you add the brass and cello harmonies.YANNI AND SHARDAD ROHANI DID A WONDERFUL JOB ON THIS CONCERT. IF ONLY MORE COMPOSERS WERE LIKE THEM............... Duets in Violin and Voice

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 11, 2002

Great setting at the Acropolis for an emotionally charged Yanni to come home to. It's a bit hard to get a well balanced recording from such a live performance however the Violin solos and duets through the first few songs are awesome. I particularl...y love the vocal duet in Aria. These two ladies sound like angels as their voices echo through the theatre. This is an enjoyable live recording/DVD that is well worth the price.
