Quite naturally, I would probably rate this album very highly. I was the host of a folk music show on WDTM in Detroit back in 1965. The Rounders were a personal favorite, and when they came to town to play a gig at the Chessmate coffeehouse, I arrang...ed to record them. I taped two sets in one evening, on a portable ampex at 7 1/2 ips. I did the mix right on the deck, which accounts for the jumpy levels. The quality is not what one might hope for, but pretty good under the circumstances. When I decided what songs to use for my show and did the editing, I went for stuff that was not on either of the two Prestige albums, with one or two exceptions. I have no idea what I did with the out-takes. (sigh...)I ran into Stampfel about 20 years ago here in Cambridge, and one thing led to another- I gave him the tapes and told him to do what he wanted with them. Im glad to see them out and about. I have to buy this now and see if Im credited as engineer.(ps: I still can play Monday Morning on the banjo in Stampfels amazing c modal tuning.
