    LiteOn DVD Recorder/VCR Combo

    By Carlos V  Jan 22, 2006 | 2 out of 2 found this Lite-On LVC-9006 review helpful

    Pros: Ease-of-use, acceptable quality

    Cons: Quality at SLP lacking

I was hesitant to purchase this because of some reviews that warned of mechanical problems and quality. I decided to take a chance because my brother is delighted with his, and it was also available at one of those 5am Thanksgiving morning supersales... for $100 off. I bought one and I love it. All the technical reviews had great praise for the easy menu screen and they didn't exaggerate. It's a snap to use. I find the quality to be just fine. I have some one-hour tapes that I transfer at the three hour speed and that works very well for me. Read more Less

Pros: Very detailed manual. Easy to use instructions Great Quality

Cons: At first would not respond, called comapny and was told to download an update, did this and it has worked to perfection since.

I do agree that quality on SLP is much to be desired, however envery thing else taken in consdideration I rate this combo recorder ass top of the line and well worth the ocst. In fact the cost is unbelieveable comparing it to other similiar products ...on the market. Read more Less

    It is a great deal!

    By afwife2  Jan 22, 2006

Pros: Easy VJS copying/archiving to DVD. Good quality playback. on DVD and VHS. Easy to use. Play and records all formats.

Cons: Slight;y less editing features than higher priced models. VHS noisy rewind.

I tried Panasonic (for $120 more than the lite-on) only to see one extra editing feature, one format, and it would not play my SVCDs. I use the lite-on and I can read all my discs, record what I want, and play my recordings on any DVD player I tried.... It is great! I have copied TV shows and VHS tapes easily. The nice thing about the combo is I just select "copy" and it controls both the VCR and DVD automatically. You can definitely hear the tape rewinding, but it rewinds fast so it never really bothers me. I looked at Consumer Reports and it rated just as well as much highre priced DVD/VCR combos. I am suprised to be able to do so much at such a low price. It is a good buy! Read more Less

    Has serious problems

    By Robert  Sep 2, 2005 | 2 out of 5 found this Lite-On LVC-9006 review helpful

    Pros: takes any format

Cons: Picture quality, awful commercial skip & pause, programming hassle

This product has some nice features one would want – record and play DVDs in any format, VCR and DVD recorder in one package, etc. However, the picture quality made this a return item for us. We have two video sources in our surround sound unit, on...e passing through the VCR and one not, which allows us to do a few things we like. With our old VCR, both of these pictures had the same brightness, color, tint, etc., so flipping from Video 1 to Video 2 gave you the same picture quality. When we connected the Lite-On LVC-9006 R the same way our old VCR was hooked in, the picture became bleached out. Dark colors became light. This could be adjusted somewhat with the TV color controls, but then the Video 2 signal ended up way too dark. We didn’t like this, but were prepared to live with it. (To be fair, our subsequent purchase, a Panasonic, did the same thing, though not as badly.) Then we started getting bright horizontal lines in the picture sometimes. Then we found at times th Read more Less

    Forget it

    Pros: I don't know yet

    Cons: Terrible quality control

I am awaiting my fourth unit. First two had DVD color problem, and the third did not play VHS tapes properly. It has been six weeks since I returned the third unit, and I'm still waiting. Buy another brand.
