Pros: Works as advertised - JUST BOUGHT MY 2nd ONE.
Cons: RTFM: People that don't know how to set it up give it a bad rap.
My first camera took 20 minutes to set up, 5 minutes to enroll with the DDNS 90-day trial. You will probably need to take a week to play with it to tweak the little things to your liking. I get Cell phone & PC email notifications with video clips from the view out my living room window. At work, during the day, I monitor the cam AUDIO on one of my PCs (screen minimized, but audio still active). Doorbell rings, knocks at my door as well as (heaven forbid) my home alarm going off can be heard easily. I EVEN get an EMAIL notification on my phone when the SNAILMAIL mailman walks by one of the cam zones set to trigger this feature. ISN'T TECHNOLOGY GREAT!!
JUST BOUGHT MY 2ND WVC54G, and I added it to my existing SoloLink DDNS service at no extra charge. I'll use my 2nd 90-day free trial after my first one runs out.
WARNING: If you don't know what a router is, if you don't know if you have a static or dynamic ip, if you don't know what your UP/Down bandwidth speeds are ... PLEASE, PLEASE RTFM before you slam the product.
FYI: DON'T UPGRADE THE FIRMWARE (unless it's 12.X or above) OR YOU'LL LOSE EMAIL NOTIFICATION FUNCTIONALITY. You can always downgrade back to the original firmware of 2.07 like I did. READ THE NET FORUMS FOR THE DETAILS ABOUT THIS. I never have needed to call Linksys Tech Support (yet), since I have heard the horror stories of their third-world support ... Just go to the wvc54g forums on the Net for help.
ALSO: For those whiners that want the razor-sharp image quality of an $800.00 plus security cam with 10X zoom, including remote pan and tilt features in an all-weather unit ... well ... the WVC54g is not for you. The WVC54g delivers decent features at less than 1/4 the price of the Pro-Cams I've previously alluded to. I have NEVER NEEDED to reboot the cams
my first cam has been on constantly for over a month. CAM ON / ROCK ON !!!
Pros: Good picture, sensitive microphone
Cons: Installation is tricky
I have a Netgear wireless pc card, a D Link wireless router and the Liinksys camera, i couldnt remember the codes, SSID numbers for the router etc.
It took about 30 minutes to set the camera on my home netwrok, with help from a call center in India and another 30 minutes to set it up on the internet.
Customer service from Linksys and from D Link were incredibly helpful, as was their web sites with faqs.
The camera has a fairly good picture and the sound works well, the internet requires the router ports be set to 1024, the SSID on the camera and the router must be identical.
