Pros: stable connection, good range, ability to upgrade firmware, and programable demilitarized zone for gaming,
Cons: the esay setup button somtimes resets custom settings.
i just upgraded from the wcg200 although the wcg200 had a better firewall its problems out did the good. with this new wrt54gs i have had no problems with droping signals. i also havent had any speed problems wile multiple users were online either. this router has been one of the better routers i have used. i have measured speeds around 18212kbps downstream and about 4000kbps upstream. comparing that to the wcg200 my reading were 3000 down and 1000 up. and these were both on the same isp. the numbers dont lie. obviously a signifacant diffrence between the two. this wrt54gs router also has the option to set aside bandwidth outside its firewall for gaming reasons. and also has the ability to set aside an amount of bandwidth for certain ip's to keep your ping low wile gaming online wile ather user can connect with no effect on you. thares also the option to upgrade the firmware. not only with linksys firmware but athers aswell such as dd-wrt. i recomend this router to anybody in need of a secure and fast connection. and for the gamers this has some good features for you aswell. and for parents. this router has built in website blocking and you can also control times when selected users are allowed to connect aswell. so thares somthing here for everybody. i highley recomend the wrt54gs.
Pros: Inexpensive
Cons: Disconnects
First install CD was of no use. Had to contact customer support for in manually installing router.
When asked why CD didn't do the job - reply was CD doesn't work with some cable/dsl providers.
Well after support was given my wireless laptop still didn't receive a signal. I then accessed Frontier DSL's FAQ site and found further install instructions regarding this particular router. After that wa-la connection! Then came the next issue - router disconnects at least once per day. When wiFi signal is lost - router has to be powered down then up. Wa-la signal back ....for a while....
Will be returning this router.
Pros: none
Cons: doesn't work
An absolute waste of money... I followed all the installation instructions 4 different tries and still doesn't work. Calling support is a joke. I cant even understand the motherfuckers because they have out-sourced. I will never buy anything from the piece of crap company ever again.
Pros: cheap
Cons: doesn't work
gave up after 2 hours and no tech help that could get it working.
will buy another mfg product tomorrow
Pros: none
Cons: everything
couldnt set up to run my laptop and home comp at the same time.....i dont get it
Pros: Production Quality, Ease of Use
Cons: None
I bought the WRT54GS router from Linksys to rreplace the 5 y/o previous model router....
The older one was lossing it and it was a pain in the Ass to watch her take off.
The older model was very difficult to use and was going out repeatedly. This cause us to have it re-set time and time again.
Our movie model one was easy to make and repeated use of it.
Pros: It looks sleek
Cons: The whole thing is horrible
I got the router for Christmas and ever since then it has messed up several times. It disconnects the internet from my PC all the time and half the time it delete's settings.I would not recommend any Linksys product to anybody.
Pros: Good for a Basic Home or Small Office Network
Cons: Loses Signal depending on where you are
I bought this router for a good basic home network. It works good for a basic home network. The wired portion runs at its full speed. The wireless portion is the problem. I have two laptops, and yes both can be used at the same time to run the internet, but setting up a home wireless network takes some skill (unless you want to sacrifice your "safety" of the firewall).
Also, I can be sitting about 10 ft from the router and I can watch the signal go up and down on my laptop. I wouldnt be moving the laptop and it would drop. This may be because of other factors (same frequency devices), but I highly doubt it, seeing as how I have changed the settings multiple times.
If you need a good home network and dont really care about some signal lose every now and then, than thise is a cheap way of getting it. I would suggest it, if you dont have the money for the newer hardware.
Pros: Provides great service when it works
Cons: Frequently disconnects
This wireless router would be great if it did not disconnect me every day. I've continually had problems with the connection, with the performance getting progressively worse in the last 2 weeks (I've had the router for 2 months). When it drops my service, I have to reset it by turning it off/on again otherwise it will not even see a wireless service in range. I have 4 computers at home and use it mainly for online gaming with the occasional streaming episodes of lost and heroes. Trying to watch those are a pain because it will disconnect me while watching. Overall beware as this router is feast or famine!
Pros: Range, configuration, tech support
Cons: None at the moment
I first started off with a Netgear Rangemax, which was ok, but once I messed up the setup, it took forever to get it working right. With the Linksys, all I had to do was hit the reset button and it was working. The tech support was great. At the time, it was $99 but has dropped to $69 in the US. It has great range. I have it set up in my basement, and get full speeds three floors up in my room. If you don't want to upgrade to N, this is the way to go
Pros: price, ease of setup, stable connection, range
Cons: no manual, online support only
First time installing a wireless router - no problems with the WRT54 GS. No lost connections and security was easy to set up. Nice system.
Pros: Fast, Easy to Use, Distance
Cons: Password Change
I ttird to change the password on my linkseys and I had to get costumer support on it due to it not letting me change it unless I Put all this information in.
Other than that problem it worked very well.
Pros: Improved range over earlier "b" router
Cons: SET UP SUCKS. Plan for Hours not Minutes
Tech Support 800 is good and much improved over the past year. W/O Techsupport I would still be following those mindless instructions, which are SO VERY incomplete and NEVER worked for me on 3 different Linksys products. Once up and running the product is GOOD. That is why I keep going back. Not because I am into S&M.

Pros: Easy to use
Cons: less range
In countries where houses made from concrete the wireless thing is next to nothing with range of not more than 3 rooms
If you use the ethernet then its better then the dlink router which had to be reset everyday
Pros: Works great every where in teh house
Cons: None
I bought this router to use with our direcway service and it works great . It works in all areas of our house and i took my lap top over to my daughters house next door which is at least 150' from ours and it works in every room of her place . I took the computer over just to do some work offline and was surprised when i started it up and i had signal .So i got more than i expected .
Pros: Stable, good range, nice looks
Cons: no Mac instructions, some features lacking
I bought this router to replace a D-Link DI-624 which is a piece of junk. This router is 100 times better, but I do miss some of the more advanced features of the DI-624.
I have a Mac/PC environment, both wired and wireless. When I got this router it didn't so much even mention the Mac, which is stupid. Setup, Linksys describes it, amounts to running a Windows program, which may or may not find your connected router. If it doesn't, your basically out of luck. In reality, you can connect this router up to either a Mac, PC, or Unix box, and get it configured without any utility. Just communicate with it, set the IP correctly, then hook it up normally using its web pages.
The problem with the Linksys method of configuration it that its not likely to work for beginners, and is too basic for advanced users. Oh, well, someday they will learn that Windows setup "helpers" are not the way to go, or at least not the only way to go.
In any case, this router is a pl
Pros: Support, ease of use, Speed, Distance
Cons: changing a password
Had no trouble getting on line with this linksys router, after a quick call to tech support, which was my error, I already had a linksys card for my laptop, but I needed the new driver installed on the laptop for the Speedbooster, which works just fine with the g card. After that little problem was solved I was up and running. There website is very good at solving a problem or for support.
When I've had to call linksys for support I had no problems, and they solved it in minutes.
The range of the router goes about 60 ft. for sure, I have the router at one end of our house and can get service to the other end. I,ve used it outside on the porch with no problems. I've also had no problems with a cordless phone interfering with the router.
In all I am very satisfied with the Linksys 54GS speedbooster router, I did look at all routers and choose the 54GS for it's speed, name, and other reviews I read, and have no regrets!
Pros: Brandname
Cons: Expensive, non-stable & wasting your time
Don't waste your time to buy and return this item!!!
Linksys WRT54GS
54Mbps + 30% = 70Mbps
Price = 80 - 100
Disconnect all the time when using wireless phone.
Netgear WGT642 & D-link DI-624
108Mbps
Price = 50 - 70
I returned it and buy a DI-624.
Do you still want to buy it???
Pros: versatility
Cons: troubleshooting, disconnects, tech support
I just purchased the wireless router due to being in a new apartment where i have 2 computers and a PS2 that use my cable modem. I bought the router with the matching wireless-g network cards and proceed to install. After a grueling 4 hours I've finally managed to install(correctly) and troubleshoot all problems that have arised(thus far). My advice, if you buy the network card and router, install both at the same time.
