Synopsis: Let It Ride (1989)

Synopis: Gambling man Trotter (Dreyfus) has promised his wife Pam (Teri Garr) that he's given up betting at the track. But when he gets a tip on a sure thing the following weekend, he's sure he can't lose. He wins on a fifty dollar bet, and turns his winnings into a full day of ups and downs with his buddy Looney (David 'Buster Poindexter' Johansen). Director Pytka was previously known as the man behind several successful beer commercials.

   As a man who grew up at the race tracks, this movie is on target. Very funny. Can't recommend this under-rated classic enough.

   Let It Ride is one of those rare movies/comedy that is able to capture and entertain a viewer no matter what level the viewer's knowledge is of the underlying subject matter. In this case, horse racing is used as the comedy vehicle. Those who are track regulars can greatly appreciate how EVERY detail of the sociology of the track is covered while the novice is not lost and can still enjoy the movie with their limited horse racing know how. Richard Dreyfuss nails the role and character Jay Trotter in what is surely the most UNDERRATED comedy performance of all time. LET IT RIDE is a must see for anyone who likes to laugh. 5 ***** ...
