    A must see!

Epic silent film all about the exploits of a group of ingenious jewel theives terrorizing Paris' elite. The group is led by Irma Vep (played my Musidora), a woman whose charms frighten and seduce her victims at the same time. This film mixes surreal...ism with reality, creating a moody, bad dream-like atmosphere. The film was banned for a while in 1916 by the Paris chief of police for making crime appear to be glamorous. Another reason why it may have been banned is that it portrays police to be bumbling, incompetent dopes who can't match wits with criminals. Eventually as this 7 1/2 hour film comes to it's final episodes, the police suddenly become "smart" and are able to outwit and capture the thieves. This is a must have for fans of French cinema and silent films. Don't let this one pass you by! Read more Less
