    The M8 Legitimizes Digital

    Pros: Image Quality, Only the Essentials

    Cons: Slow write time

    Being a life-long film photographer who also uses digital, I've never really accepted digital photography until I started using the M8. Why? Because finally, here is a camera that has the response to colors and a luminance range similar to film. ...I see it with my own eyes, and that is what counts. Every Leica lens is sharp out to the edges, and every Leica lens ever made since day one can be used on an M8; even the screwmount Leica lenses! There is no such thing as a mediocre Leica lens. Re-sale of any Leica product is phenomenal. The M8 has only what is essential; no fancy gimmicks and unnecessary gadgetry. It forces you to slow down and like a film camera, make every "shot" count; not like with the spray-and-pray crowd of no-talents. I think what Leica has achieved beyond the obvious is that they legitimized digital. Read more Less

    Pros: Compact, discreet, quiet, great image quality, superb build

    Cons: No autofocus, no real zoom lens, expensive

    I have this camera and a Cannon 5D, both are great with comparable image quality. The M8 is great for walking around the streets and taking photos, it is compact and discreet, and this can help a lot when taking photos of people. Though the 5D's... autofocus is great and good for sports photography and the like. I usually just stick a 35mm lens on it and go out. I am waiting on a 50mm Summilux which should be great. The build quality is fantastic and it has a great feel to it. This camera is a true collectors item. Read more Less
