Pros: Excellent memorable fantasy characters
Cons: An hour and a half is not enough. We want more of it actually.
This is one of those memorable movies that legends, myths, and fantasy fairy tales are made of. It is quite surprising for us to learn that Ridley Scott (of Gladiator and Alien fame) directed a wonderful fantasy love story in "Legend". And in this movie, you will meet Oona, a Tinkerbell type fairy, who fell in love with the handsome forest lad named Jack played by Tom Cruise,(who really looked boyish at that time). And there are other memorable characters too in this film rivaling that of those in the Lord of the Rings. Hobbits, elves, unicorns, and a damsel in distress are brought to life in this tale which depicits an immortal battle between good and evil. Lord of Darkness played by Tim Curry is such an imposing, scary character.
And we liked the musical scoring of this film played by Tangerine Dream, one of our faves.
And so we rate this movie as one of our favorite fantasy movie of all time.Was this review helpful? Yes - NoAnother Ridley Scott masterwork.

Cons: The floppy bull horns on Tim Curry are hilarious
All in all I love this movie, but I recommend the Director's cut with the alternate musical score. While I love the vocal music by Yes and Tangerine Dream in the theatrical version, the instrumental score rounds out the movie nicely.
Like Risky Business, this movie was made long before Tom Cruise became an arrogant, couch jumping pseudo-shrink back when he still retained his integrity as an artist. His portrayal of the woods-wise Jack spirit is believable and touching.
Mia Sara is absolutely beautiful as the innocent Lily who unwittingly brings the world to the edge of eternal darkness. This movie is a wonderful retrospective on the early careers of 2 actors, before they became jaded by Hollywood.
A good movie for older children, though it might scare the younger ones. Know your kids before you let them watch it. The muppets it isn't.
Adults with knowledge of old world mythology like Celtic and old German will see echoes of those archetypes.

Once upon a time there was a world of filmmaking before computer-generated graphics... The sets, costumes, and make-up alone in this production are enough to make subsequent fantasy films blush. Director Ridly Scott ("Blade Runner") provides an incredibly detailed world of monsters, creatures and mythical beasts that are an utter feast for the eyes. Closely resembling the Greek myths of Orpheus/Euridice, and Hades/Persephone, "Legend" is a classic tale of light overcoming darkness, innocence over evil. Except for a weak performance by Tom Cruise, "Legend" will welcome you to an unforgettable world of fantasy. Highly recommended.

This movie is perfect for family. Demons,Unicorns,& other mythological characters in one movie. Tom plays a wanderer who is trying to save this mystical world from evil. The story line isn't so deep. Yet the acting & beauty of the film take up for all that. Tom has never made a movie like this since. The question is why?

What can anyone say about Tim Curry! I remember I was very young when I first saw the movie and I was astonished by the make up, costume and acting by Curry as Darkness. The magical forest, I hope there is somewhere on earth one like this...

Definitely one of my all time favorite movies. Nearly comes off as a dream from my childhood. My favorite line in the movie is when Tim Curry's character ask Tom Cruise "Don't you know me, boy?" What can be said for Mia Sara-a picture of innocense...
