If you want a great movie/love story, this is it! I've loved this movie since I was a little girl, the storyline, the characters...I always wanted to be Lili (Mia Sara) when I grew up. :) Tim Curry did an EXCELLENT job, the make-up job was superb. ... This is one of my favorite movies. Has the love story thing, some action, and an excellent soundtract that that goes good with the movie. The characters are cool too. I just want to know if the june DVD release date is TRUE!!! Looking forward to ...seeing it and checking out all of the extras. Till then I'll be waiting... Read more Less

This is one of the best movies of all time! It has a fantastic story of an epic battle between good and evil set in a fantasy world complete with fairies and unicorns and monsters. Tim Curry as Darkness and Mia Sara as Lilly make this movie a real t...reat to watch even if you're NOT a typical fantasy fan! Read more Less

this movie is one of my all time favorites. It has a great story behind it and the creations are great. I could watch it over and over again. I recommend it to anyone who has an imagination and likes to dream.

Lord of Darkness meets Jack

Pros: Excellent memorable fantasy characters

Cons: An hour and a half is not enough. We want more of it actually.

This is one of those memorable movies that legends, myths, and fantasy fairy tales are made of. It is quite surprising for us to learn that Ridley Scott (of Gladiator and Alien fame) directed a wonderful fantasy love story in "Legend". And ...in this movie, you will meet Oona, a Tinkerbell type fairy, who fell in love with the handsome forest lad named Jack played by Tom Cruise,(who really looked boyish at that time). And there are other memorable characters too in this film rivaling that of those in the Lord of the Rings. Hobbits, elves, unicorns, and a damsel in distress are brought to life in this tale which depicits an immortal battle between good and evil. Lord of Darkness played by Tim Curry is such an imposing, scary character. And we liked the musical scoring of this film played by Tangerine Dream, one of our faves. And so we rate this movie as one of our favorite fantasy movie of all time. Read more Less

Scott is a great director,the fisrt Alien had me looking out for his work,I WAS FASCINATED by this fairytale come to life,CRUISE is one of my favorite actors,Currys voice is distinctive,like James Earl Jones'

An Undiscovered Gem

Cons: The floppy bull horns on Tim Curry are hilarious

All in all I love this movie, but I recommend the Director's cut with the alternate musical score. While I love the vocal music by Yes and Tangerine Dream in the theatrical version, the instrumental score rounds out the movie nicely. Like Risky ...Business, this movie was made long before Tom Cruise became an arrogant, couch jumping pseudo-shrink back when he still retained his integrity as an artist. His portrayal of the woods-wise Jack spirit is believable and touching. Mia Sara is absolutely beautiful as the innocent Lily who unwittingly brings the world to the edge of eternal darkness. This movie is a wonderful retrospective on the early careers of 2 actors, before they became jaded by Hollywood. A good movie for older children, though it might scare the younger ones. Know your kids before you let them watch it. The muppets it isn't. Adults with knowledge of old world mythology like Celtic and old German will see echoes of those archetypes.
