Very few Led Zeppelin performances were caught on camera during the band's life-span, but the footage that has been preserved for posterity is collected on this release. With a running time of over five-and-a-half hours, this is the definitive word on Zep's global stage-straddling performances. The footage is taken from London's Royal Albert Hall in January 1970, London's Earls Court in May 1975, Knebworth in August 1979, and Madison Square Garden in July 1973. Guitarist Jimmy Page has taken great care to restore, remix, and remaster the sound from these shows, providing a visual and sonic assault that offers indisputable proof of Led Zeppelin's reputation as a rock & roll behemoth. Additional footage comes in the shape of several television interviews, a bootleg shot of the band performing "Heartbreaker," behind the scenes footage from Knebworth, and a whole lot more.

    The Missing Link

I dont think it is possible to fully appreciate Led-Zeppelin without seeing them perform live. While their studio recordings have stood solidly on their own merit for the last 35 years, there is so much more to this band than what you can hear on the...ir polished LPs/CDs. These four musicians seem to feed off eachs aggressive style and it results in so much energy and improvisational fun that just doesnt come across to this degree in their recorded work. The DVD virtually spans Led-Zeppelins entire career and, at times, has a documentary feel to it. One of my favorite features of the cinematography is the way bootleg video is interwoven with the official film, giving the viewer about as close to a feeling of being there as is possible with current technology.Considering that _The Song Remains the Same_ (from the 1973 Madison Square Garden shows, described as a mediocre performance by band members) has been the only official visual documentation of Led-Zeppelin live, this DVD set gives viewers what I believe to be a more accurate view of what this band is all about.Whether youre a die hard Zep-head or even if you just like that tune on the Cadillac commercials, you owe it to yourself to pick up this DVD set. And, hell, $20 for 5 hours of Zeppelin? What a smokin deal.On a final note: Im about 30 years old, and have been a fan for over half my life. For the first time, I understand why the surviving members have been reluctant to play together again as Led-Zeppelin without John Bonham (not that it would hurt my feelings if they changed their minds under the right circumstances). In this video, youll see that Led-Zeppelin is a true collaborative effort between all four musicians; its a whole lot more than just Jimmys virtuoso guitar wizardry or Roberts front-man bravado, or even just a combination of the two. After viewing this DVD, youre likely to see how integral each members contribution is to the work. This band is made up of Mozart-caliber composers and players who all of us have the pleasure of seeing and hearing contemporarily. My favorites: All of the old versions of _Dazed and Confused_, White Summer(wow), Achilles Last Stand, and more. Happy viewing! Read more Less

This is it! Any fan of Rock, Blues, or just want to see how a REAL band should thank an audience, get this extraordinary compilation of concert footage. From nervous early days of 1969 (oh, my god what is he gonna do with that violin bow) to total do...minance of the music business ( yes we will take 95% of the gate ). If you saw Song Remains The Same, dont worry, thank god this is MUCH better. Being a musician, I find it amazing that Page will go off on these amazing tangents & equally more amazing that Bonzo, Jonesy & Plant stay with him. It is an absolute scream. Listen up!!!!!! Any musician that thinks the bands of the day are great......check this out & take note! Read more Less
