    Pros: Fun, educational, interactive game

Cons: It may be too realistic for younger students, not every person survives the journey.

This software gives your student a real feel of what the Early Settlers went through during the time of the Gold Rush. The player has to plan ahead and make decisions about what supplies are needed, how to transport them and who to team up with. Mone...y, and supplies are limited. When the money is gone you must sell something you have to get what you need. It is very realistic in demostrating both the triumphs and tradegies the people endured. If wrong choices were made tradegy stikes and the player is left with decisions about how to continue on or turn back. This is good software for American History and geography. Read more Less

    Pros: VERY FUN

Cons: takes a bit to get used to

As a 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader my friends and I would alwyas play this game during every bit of computer time we would get at school. We played it as a game, and not for educational purposes. And looking back on it now I relize how much I learned fro...m it. I am now 14 and still wish I could play that game. It really is excellent. My only problem with it might be that for a child at home, if not fist introduced as a game, it might be revoked quickly. At school it was OK it was for learning- we didn't care. But at home, I don't know if even the excellentness that is the Oregon Trail can mask the learning involved. Read more Less
