    Tool Is An Experience...

By Yahoo! Shopping User  May 3, 2006

Pros: A notch above their admirable previous releases.

Cons: A little more on the mellower, more technical side.

Everything about Tool's fourth album is an experience, starting with the packaging, which consists of a booklet that layers anatomical representations atop one another--the first page pictures musculature and blood vessels; the next, bones; the third, internal organs; and so on. It's worth describing the packaging of Lateralus because it says much about the astonishing music within. Maynard James Keenan understood the expectations riding on this and delivered the goods! While it remains in the Tool tradition of trance-inducing progressive metal, Lateralus is tighter, clearer, crisper, and all around a notch above their admirable previous releases. Aenima was marred by muddy production and a certain predictability. Undertow had a cleaner sound but wasn't as confident or adventurous. With Lateralus, Tool have raised an already lofty bar still higher by coming up with a collection that kicks major ass. Can't wait to hear the new album 10,000 Days!

    Pros: Its the best album!

    Cons: There are no cons!

Lateralus happens to be the best album so far, Shcism, ticks and leeches have to be by far the best tracks on it. It seems like TOOL is getting smarter as they get older. If i could i would put a million stars for the rating. GET THIS ALBUM!!!!!! Manyard, Hartnett, and Rizzo you ROCK!!

This is another TOOL album that is exceptional.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 16, 2004

Pros: It's classic TOOL the way we've come to love it.

Cons: Um... if anything, maybe a bit too experimental?

Well, those who know the Beefman know that I have a personal and deep-seated love for Tool. This is a bunch of genuine musicians who understand their artform unto mastery. The sheer power of their amazing, cerebral lyrics is enough to inspire intellectual conversation if you were to just read those lyrics off a page. Couple it with Tool's utterly awesome music, and you have another of today's greatest works. In a world of rehash, remake, and repeat, I'm always thrilled to hear something new from Tool. They are always amazingly original and always carry their own phenomenal trademark sound at the same time. They've become iconic to modern rock, and I believe they deserve every second of it. They are the stuff of which rock legends are formed. If I had anything negative to say about this album, it would be that in some very certain parts of the album, you can hear some overly experimental and genuinely "not trademark Tool" sequences slip through the music. However, in my opinion, this adds some character to the new album and makes it truly new. So as detrimental as that small fact may be, it is as much a positive characteristic of this new project from one of the best bands today.

Lateralus must be listen with caution

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 2, 2004

    Pros: .

    Cons: .

Lateralus is a journey. not an easy one, it has hard and difficults steps. The journey starts by making you feel like a worm, the worse thing in this planet, like shit. Then Tool takes you by the hand help you get out of the hole, the band shows you that there is so much beauty, hope in life, in everything. After feeling a worm you start feeling like a cocoon, just waiting ,being patient to go out there and fly. Then when you think you can become a butterfly tool makes you feels like the worm again.. but this is the final test. it has to be done otherwise tool cant go one. And then after all the pain and suffering tool shows you the beauty and all the good stuff. you are the beauty you are the butterfly. and you can fly. but remember you are not a common butterfly you are made by tool and you must remember this always. If you feel this listening to tool you must agree tool is more than a rock band.

    Lateralus Review

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jun 19, 2003

Lateralus is a very good album to listen to. I think that it is very artistic, when I bought it I looked at the plastic booklet of the body and turned the pages and saw the body begin to fade into nothing and looking at the creative patterns around it which reminds me of a magic that disintegrates the body. As you turn the pages, the body has more very artistic features which I think is fantastic. When you listen to it, the music generates a feeling of "intelligence" which I love experiencing and the lyrics are intelligently created as well. I think that Tool are fantastic.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Mar 15, 2003

This particular Tool album shows how much meaning can go into a song. The song, "Lateralus", really shows how much thought was put into the words and what the guys were feeling at that time. While I believe that Aenema was better with the aggression, Lateralus shows that Tool isn't just some band that screams and jumps up and down much like the nu metal bands that you see today.

This kind of musical contribution only comes
along once every so often.Although it's made
an impact initially in the music world,I truly
feel beyond a shadow of a doubt, that it's
effect on society won't be digested for some
    time to come. Amazing,Phenomenal,Enligh

This Band is truly in a League of their own!

    Re: disappointment

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 9, 2003 | 0 out of 1 found this Lateralus review helpful

"this has to be the biggest disappointment of the year. this album has no concrete songs. its one of those evolving sound albums quite like Radiohead's disasters "Kid A" and "OK Computer". the album is just one big song and none of it rocks. Aenima kicked ass."
    from DeftoneVL

Just wanted to mention to this moron that Kid A was Album of the Year...and yes the album is fantastic.

    ART AT ITS FINEST

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 27, 2002

This is an extraordinary album. One of my favorite rock/metal albums of all time. The best things about this album is Justin Chancellors bass playing. It gives the music such an intricate feel. Along with Maynard's outstanding vocals. For me this album was really strange listening to. Because I normally prefer bands like Slayer, Pantera, Cannibal Corpse, Metallica etc. But this really grew on me.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Nov 4, 2002

I hate having to rate Tool... make your own opinion. As they say: Think for yourself. I thought i have heard it all before but they really make something different. I do not think Lateralus is worse/better than the other albums. Some of you are right when you say it is slow: you have to LISTEN to it. It is not the kind of music for driving because it demands atention. Go ahead Tool.

Good album, still getting used to it

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 10, 2002

Im not a big Tool fan but after hearing a couple Tool songs on the radio I liked them, plus I was on my way to the mall anyway and figured I would pick up "Lateralus". After hearing it, it is pretty good. I still have to absorb it more I guess but all in all a good album. Keenan has a great voice and the sound is nice and clear. The bass and quitar are great and fast, I give credit to Tool's other members for their great work. Track 11 and 12 are my favorites so far while Schism is pretty good and has a beautiful tone to it when Keenan sings in the low voice. Tool is an interesting band. They are for sure more talented then most other bands like slipknot and Mudvayne. And they DEFINETLY are more talented then crap growling bands like Morbid Angel and Cannibal Corpse. Tool actually SINGS and has great GUITAR and BASS, something that Morbid and corpse need. Well peace!!!!
