    Pros: Amazing Singer / Songwriter

    Cons: None

This guy without a doubt is the real deal... I have been listening to singers pretending to go through the motions for years, trying to be another Sinatra or Bennett ...The truth is, that just isn't going to happen ... We all know that they were ...truly originals, with a talent that was certainly a gift... Finally someone has come along with a talent of his own that makes you think of the greats but with a new refreshing angle, a singer and songwriter that is truly original ...That guy is Tony DeSare.. Not only does he sing great songs, he writes originals that grab you from the moment you hear them... His voice is seemless, his timing is perfect.. He just seems to make songs his own, the mark of a true artist... I thought his first CD "Want You" was amazing, but you just knew this was only the beginning ... His latest release "Last First Kiss" has not proven me wrong, I couldn't be more impressed... He took the pop hit "Kiss" by Prince and turned it into a masterpiece that would impress the toughest jazz crowd... "Let's Just Stay In" an original ballad blends seemlessly with the other standards on the album, the mark of a real songwriter... This guy is the real deal.. I'm sure I won't be the only one you'll be hearing that from...Give yourself and your wife or girlfriend a real treat and buy this CD, you will not disappointed if you like really great music by a refreshing new artist like Tony DeSare.. Last First Kiss builds nicely upon vocalist/pianist Tony DeSare's superb 2005 debut album, Want You. A charming presence on the microphone with classic silverscreen good looks and a singer/songwriter's soul, DeSare not only updates such classic American popular song standards here as "Gee Baby Ain't I Good to You" and "How Deep Is the Ocean?," but also reinterprets such modernday hits as "Kiss," turning Prince's iconic funk track into a sloweddown organdriven shuffle. Similarly invigorating, DeSare dims the lights on Carole King's usually upbeat "I Feel the Earth Move" and delivers instead a brooding, Miles Davisinfluenced afterglow version. It's just this kind of postmodern niftiness that stops Last First Kiss from being yet another solid yet predictable neocrooner outing and turns it into a truly surprising listen. Also a pleasant surprise is DeSare's own songwriting, and here he showcases his knack for both classic jazz standardinfluenced songcraft, as on the poignant "I'll Never Ha...ve Enough of You," as well as more contemporary rockinfluenced writing, as evidenced by the sweetly melodic and bittersweet title track. Of course, at his core DeSare is a supremely gifted interpreter of jazz standards, and his softly melodic, straightahead take on "There Will Never Be Another You" mainlines heartbreak to your soul. Throw in a stellar backing ensemble, including bassist and cowriter Mike Lee, guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, and tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, and Last First Kiss enters the race as an early contender for one of the best releases of 2007. - Matt Collar, All Music Guide Read more Less
