    A must have

    By Robert A  Aug 19, 2000

Lamb's debut is one of those rare flashes of brilliance and talent that cause a LIVING person to sit quietly and think a little thanks to the minds that invented it. The blend of so many wouldbe harsh/obnoxious details under and over Rhodes' bloodki...ss voice are just... beautiful. Startling in its originality, upon first listen the disc seems almost pretentious, walking that line that matters, they go as far as music can go without becoming self parody. Things that should not work together do. I wonder what their IQ's are.. The disc is that good. Buy it. Read more Less

Where did THEY pop out from?

By Amadu Jr  Feb 11, 2000

Where have I been all this time this band has exsisted? This is kinda jazzy electronica, jungle and triphop mixed....very interesting formula, and it works!!! This album is very soothing... excellent music! I give them a '5'.

  • All Music Guide

Using the post-modern torch music of Portishead as a foundation, Lamb spins out into new sonic territories on its eponymous debut album. The group sports a heavier techno influence, incorporating the buzzing rhythms of drum'n'bass into their music in particular, yet they cut their modernistic electronic influences with a dark sense of melodicism. Most of the album is devoted to jazzy songs that are broken apart by Andrew Barlow's synthesizers and sampler, and are anchored by Louise Rhodes' seductive vocals, which prevent the electronics from becoming cold. It's sophisticated urban music, one that's miles away from the avant-garde sensibilities of Tricky and the haunted romanticism of Portishead, or even the pop leanings of Sneaker Pimps and the soul-inflected grooves of Morcheeba. Instead, Lamb is classy, detached and cool -- a more club-oriented and less melodic variation of Everything But the Girl's Walking Wounded. Although Lamb may run a little long, it's one of the more hypnotic b...y-products of trip-hop yet released. - Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Lamb

Mancunian downtempo/drum'n'bass duo Lamb were one of the first groups to add a lyrics-based vocalist to steadfastly jungle-based productions. Unlike other vocal-based groups (such as Everything But the Girl and the Sneaker Pimps) who dabbled in rolling breaks as a quiet accompaniment to a clearly dominant vocal lead, Lamb dwelled in brash musical contrasts and, occasion... Read more
