Mark Kilpatrick (born 1968, Puerto Rico) and Gustavo Laureano (born 1970, Puerto Rico) met in Orlando before moving to Miami Beach. They began rehearsing in a local warehouse along with drummer John Lengel (born 1972, Miami, FL) and guitarist Calos Figueroa (born 1970, Puerto Rico). Producer Jorge Alvarez introduced them to Andrés Levin, and Secta Allstar signed a record deal with Fonovisa soon after. Their debut album, called Aniquila, was released in 1997. Bombon de Azúcar and La Secta Allstar followed in 1999 and 2001, respectively.
