Formed in Monterrey, Mexican ensemble la Firma made its debut with the release of Como Una Estrella in 1998, followed by the successful Para Recordar. Playing a mixture of local traditional music and different Latin rhythms such as Colombian Cumbia and vallenato, the band, led by singer/songwriter Luis Padilla, returned in 2001 with Por El Amor de Una Mujer. The album was recorded in McAllen, TX, and features collaborations by Plastilina Mosh and Intocable.
