    Beatles Love

    By David  Mar 3, 2007

Pros: Fantastic music remixed and presented as the Beatles would have it.

Cons: cant think of anything I didnt like.. oh its too short!

The first time I heard this album I was blown away by the production and clarity of the sound. Not only did George Martin and his son make great songs shine, they took every instrument the fab four played and mixed them into the whole product. The songs are still orginal yet with a touch or two there to make it work in the whole frame work. They are still the same songs yet so much better. I could go on and on about it but I think a listen is in order for anyone interested in this album. I'm almost sure you'll end up buying it!

    From AMG Reviews

If boiled down to a simple synopsis, the Beatles' LOVE sounds radical: assisted by his father, the legendary Beatles producer George, Giles Martin has assembled a remix album where familiar Fab Four tunes aren't just refurbished, they're given the mashup treatment, meaning different versions of different songs are pasted together to create a new track. Ever since the turn of the century, mashups were in vogue in the underground, as such cutnpaste jobs as Freelance Hellraiser's "Stroke of Genius" which paired up the Strokes' "Last Night" with Christina Aguilera's "Genie in a Bottle" circulated on the net, but no major group issued their own mashup mastermix until LOVE in November 2006. Put in those terms, it seems like LOVE is a grand experiment, a piece of art for art's sake, but that's hardly the case. Its genesis lies with the Beatles agreeing to collaborate with performance dance troupe Cirque du Soleil on a project that evolved into the Las Vegas stage show LOVE, an extravaganza that cost well over 100 million dollars and was designed to generate revenue far exceeding that. During preproduction, all involved realized that the original Beatles tapes needed to be remastered in order to sound impressive by modern standards when pumped through the huge new theater the theater made just with this dance revue in mind and since they needed to be tweaked, they might as well use the opportunity to do something different with the familiar music, too: to remix and reimagine it, to make LOVE be something unique to both the Beatles and Cirque du Soleil. Keep in mind the Cirque du Soleil portion of the equation: George and Giles Martin may have been given free reign to recontextualize the Beatles' catalog, but given that this was for a project that cost hundreds of millions of dollars this wasn't quite the second coming of The Grey Album, where Danger Mouse surreptitiously mashed up The White Album with JayZ's The Black Album. This isn't an art project and it isn't underground, either: it's a big, splashy commercial endeavor, one that needs to surprise millions of Beatles fans without alienating them, since the mission is to please fans whether they're hearing this in the theater or at home. And so, the curious LOVE, a purported reimagining of the most familiar catalog in pop music, winds up being less interesting or surprising than its description would suggest.

in love with LOVE and 4 men

    By Kolle  Dec 12, 2006

Pros: # of tracks for your $$$

Cons: 26 tracks can't begin to tell the story of the Beatles

In a www.beatles.com interview with George and Giles Martin, they described the album as trying to summarize the history of the Beatles music within one album. As most people know this feat is damn near impossible, but these men sure did do their best.

The album opens with an acappella version of Because with the sound of birds chirping in the background. It then moves on to Get Back where you can automatically recognize A Hard Day’s Night intro note and A Day in the Life’s orchestral movement. You can tell that most of the songs on LOVE have bits and pieces pulled in from different songs of different times. For example, Glass Onion has the Penny Lane piccolo trumpet and on Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite! you hear the killer vocals from Helter Skelter mixed in which makes the song a little edgier and darker.

One of my favorite songs on the album is the snippet of Gnik Nus which is Sun King backwards. I wish they would have left the Italian lyrics in the song, but as the song fades it makes for a wonderful transition into Something.

Another set of great transitions between songs includes the Blackbird intro that mellows into Yesterday and the mix of Eleanor Rigby which fades beautifully into Julia. And who could forget about A Day in the Life? This is definitely a treat with Lennon counting off the song to “sugarplum fairy, sugarplum fairy.”

Although I may have picked some different pieces, the Martins’ compilation and remixes of Beatles trax make LOVE a special album. I can honestly say that in listening to the trax of LOVE that I’m taken on a little trip from start to finish of the Beatles career.

Its a different but good Greatest Hits CD

By Ronni  Dec 10, 2006 | 1 out of 1 found this LOVE review helpful

Pros: every song is good, different but good

Cons: is there a bad thing abt a Beatles CD?

I bought this CD on the recommendation of a local talk show host, Joe Hipperson, on KTRS here in St Louis. He had played a couple of cuts and although it has been remixed; it gives a different prospective on the greatest hits of this Icon band. It might take a little getting used to if you bought "1" a few years back but its a decent CD if you are a fan.
