Rad phone.. Read this if your battery dies daily!!

By Cole  Oct 15, 2006 | 197 out of 217 found this LG VX8500 Chocolate review helpful

Pros: Awesome looking, nice screen, touch pad is awesome, good pictures, good interface

Cons: small internal memory, only WMP compatible (no itunes) and headphones don't use a regular headphone jack

I'm bored at work so I felt like doing something with my time. When I first got this phone I loved everything about it; wasn't hard to learn, touchpad wasn't too sensitive, camera was great, played music from a 1 gig card that you shou...ld buy online for like 30-40 bucks. It did kinda suck that I bought the music essentials kit, what a scam but whatever. You can probably get the right headphones and data cable somewhere online for half the price. Oh and by the way apparently these phones come with a speakerphone mode; mine did. Then the phone died. At five o'clock. On the same day that I charged it. Hardly even used it. My mom's chocolate lasted for days without a recharge! So I promptly took the battery back and replaced it to no avail; still died the next day. So thennnnn I took the whole phone back. Verizon was great and gave me another one. Had it another day and it died. So I was getting ready to accept and live with it until I did some thinking and decided that maybe the fact that I had the memory card in mine had something to do with it, because that was the only difference between mine and my mother's. So next day I took it out and the phone still had 4 bars (full) of charge by the time I went to sleep. And then I realized that my WALLPAPER WAS STORED ON THE MEMORY CARD. So this whole time it has been wasting battery accessing the memory card.. no wonder it died so fast. Hopefully this is the situation that many of you are in and that this resolves the battery life problem for you as it did for me. Personally I think people that think the touch pad is too sensitive are out of their minds. I didn't find mine sensitive enough so I turned the sensitivity to high. If you just spend a few minutes to look through the phone interface you will find that it is organized very well. It takes great pictures but it sucks that there's no flash. Also, the glossy finish really likes oil/fingerprints but it's not a problem if you carry the phone in your pocket because it just cleans off on the fabric. There are still a lot of features like VZnavigator and stuff that I really haven't had to use yet but if I do I'll be glad I have this phone. A few things I don't like are the music player interface, Windows Media Sync, and small keys. The music player does kind of a crappy job of organizing your music; the songs are all out of order, etc. I hate, hate, hateeee Windows Media Player also and it sucks that I have to use it in order to sync the songs onto the phone. I haven't yet done a direct transfer to the card via a card reader on the pc. Hopefully that works a bit better. If you're used to iTunes then this will be a pain in the butt for you. Transfers often fail, playlists are unorganized and everything is just plain difficult to use. Also, if you text a lot, the keys will take some getting used to as they are small. When I first got it I would often type out 3 or 4 letters with 1 press on the keypad because I would hit other keys accidentally. Hope this review helped you. I think this is a really great phone, period. Have fun with it! Read more Less

    I'm in love!

    Pros: Great sound quality!

Cons: Must read manual to get the most out of product

I bought the chocolate this weekend and I am in love! The chocolate fits the arm band for the IPOD mini, allowing me to take my music on the go with me, without toting an extra device. The touch screen sensitivity is adjustable, allowing the user to ...modify the device to suit them. Screen quality and sound quality are excellent. It has a memory expansion port which allows up to a 2GB card to store music, in addition to the in phone memory. While the chocolate does not have a speakerphone, the bluetooth capability makes it easy to use in the car and on the go. The only downside to buying the chocolate is that you have to read the manual in order to master all the versatile features it has to offer. But it's worth the read. I LOVE MY CHOCOLATE! Great phone and IT DOES HAVE A SPEAKERPHONE!

By dANIELLEl  Dec 30, 2006 | 50 out of 52 found this LG VX8500 Chocolate review helpful

Pros: the style, the music speaker, the music player, the extra memory, a lot more

Cons: Camera has no flash and is only 1.3 megapixels

This is really a wonderful phone. Some people just need to read the manual and maybe use it before actually writing a review on something they know very little about. The touch buttons, take a little while to get used to but if you have an IPod, you...'ll be well off. IT DOES HAVE A SPEAKERPHONE. When you're talking, there is a little thing on the top-right of the screen. If you press the adjacent side button, you're on speakerphone. Memory for the songs can go up to 2GB with a miniSD disk. And what is great about the extra memory is that on the phone, you can choose to put not only music on the extra memory but photos too. What pissed me off a little bit at the beginning was the ringtone situation. My friends all got RAZRs, and those could have loaded real music ringtones (pretty obvious). I really wanted that. I thought at first that the Chocolate couldn't do it but through thorough research, I've found that you can do it through either sending a ringtone as a PIXmessage or a program called BitPim. Look into it. Oh and for those who are complaining about battery life, there is a trick to that. If you go to menu and press 0, something will pop up with 6 question marks. Enter 6 zeroes and you'll get a long menu; go to (3)Network Select, then (1) Mode Preference. You'll get 4 choices, one of which will up your battery life A LOT: 1X Only. I have no idea what the other choices are, but the initial setting was Digital Only Hybrid I believe. 1X Only will make the battery life something like 24 hours. The only downside to this is that VCast will be mostly unavailable. GREAT PHONE. GREAT PRICE. GREAT FEATURES. Just don't listen to people who give uneducated and bad reviews. Read more Less

Pros: awesome phone, slides easy, look good, i can go on forever

    Cons: none so far

okay heres the deal people keep saying that there isnt a speaker phone, well news flash! THERE IS! just read the manual before you go off bad mouthing a perfectlyy good phone. sure its touch pad is a bit sensitive, and it does get a bit of fingerprin...ts, but those are trifles. [dont mean anything] the speaker phone is the camera button. when u are on a call, just press it and it will go to speaker phone. another thing, the battery is fine, those people who listen to music for 4 hours, ya that DOES kill the battery, but if u dont use it for an iPod, it lasts forever. mine STILL hasent died and i had it for like 3 weeks. geez and for the people who say that the touch-sensitive pad thing is too "sensitive" first of all, read the name. and second of all:lay off the caffine. its fine. mine isnt sensitive. i think those people are just looking for bad things. just enjoy a great phone and..i dont know. try READING THE MANUAL before complaining. its all in there, thats what its for. some people.... BAD MOVE!!!

By D.A. Payne  Aug 17, 2006 | 55 out of 95 found this LG VX8500 Chocolate review helpful

Pros: It looks cool, sounds good.

Cons: Touch buttons are no good.... Battery life is terrible....... Can't get pics and video to your computer

I bought this phone right away. I had $100 toward it from Verizon's new every two.... but after buying music software, car charger, and mini-SD memory card, it still came in over $150. That's not too bad, but the phone is terrible. I'm ...taking it back tonight. 1. I took it off the charger at 9am and by 5pm it was dead!!! (I didn't make or receive any calls, or text, I just opened the phone to see the time twice.) 2. When you are trying to talk and you have the phone up to your face, your cheek hits the end call button. So you hang up on people all the time. 3. When you try to do anything with the phone closed, you have to unlock it with the little button on the side... and you always end up hitting other buttons on the other side with your other fingers. 4. It's a little weird to use at first, the interface, but you get used to it. Same with the touch buttons. 5. No matter how you set the sensitivity of the touch buttons, they are never right. 6. It looks cool, that's about it. 7. No Speakerphone? Who's bright idea was excluding that? 8. So really how do I get my pictures and videos off the phone? I have the USB Cable but you can't get the pics out!! You have to go through VZWpix. Definitely not quick or easy. 9. I'm getting a different phone today! Read more Less

    LG VX8500

By Shane  Aug 15, 2006 | 21 out of 28 found this LG VX8500 Chocolate review helpful

Pros: Cool Design, MP3 Player, Great looking Screen, Good Camera(1280x960), Price

Cons: No Speakerphone (Who Cares), No usable phone case (Yet).

Have had the phone for about 4 days, Touch menu takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, works well. Very nice design, slides extremly smooth, Can make calls(and view Pics, listen to music, etc.) with slider closed. Voice comm...ands work well, and can be trained to your voice. Charging port has its own attached cover (No more looking for that little rubber peice anymore), MicroSD port so you can add additional memory (1GB SanDisk MicroSD Card's can be found for around $35.00 if you search around online), Plus you could also have multiple cards with different playlists, etc. Which you can't do with reg. MP3 players. The phone case thats available as of now, doesn't alow the phone to slide, which is ok because you can do most of the functions with it closed, but it has a clear plastic piece covering the touch-pad, which makes it impossible to use (requires finger touch), Plus it makes the phone look bulky & dumb. No speakerphone, but how often do you use it? For me it wasn't that big of a deal. I also got a Bluetooth Headset which works very well, and should solve the not having a speakerphone issue (Minus having more than one person talking/listening at the same time), but as far as hands-free, it works well. All this for $150.00 (w/2 Yr. Contract), Good Deal. On a personal note: The "Chocolate" is one of the dumbest marketing names i've seen, it doesn't even look like chocolate. And I'll be referring to mine as the VX8500. Read more Less

    Pros: Look & functionality.

Cons: Takes more than 1 day to get used to it. (if that is a con...?)

Great phone, great price, great functions, great network, great, great, great! Everyone needs to lay off the caffeine and touch the phone normally. The touch screen on this phone is the same technology as ATM machines or iPods. It even offers 4... convenient levels of touch sensitivity. Slow down!! and learn how to use the phone. Read more Less

    There is Speaker Phone People

By Jacqueline  Oct 31, 2006 | 10 out of 11 found this LG VX8500 Chocolate review helpful

    Pros: Wonderful MP3 player

    Cons: too touch sensitive

Just to clear things up: Although there is no mention of the speaker phone feature in the manual, this phone does have speaker phone. While in a call simply press the camera button on the side. THATS IT! There is also a feature to change the sensit...ivity of the touch. It works, but I still think I would have liked push buttons instead. I LOVE CHOCOLATE!!! Read more Less
