    Wonderful Album

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 4, 2003

Ill start off by saying that on my first listen to this album i didnt really care for it. I just kinda thought of them as being Slipknot 2nd edition. However this could not be farther from the truth. When i gave this album a second chance it reall...y started to grow on me and now it is one of my favorite albums ever. If at first you dont like this CD give it a second listen and a third and eventually you will be able to hear their talent and uniquness. It really is amazing. What really separates them from everyone else is their bass player RyKnow or now Ru-D i guess. He incorporates some of the most amazing bass playing i have ever heard come out of a metal band. Dont get me wrong, the other 3 muscians are excellent as well in their own way, but Ru-D is the most original of the bunch. Most metal bands i forget they even have a bassist because they are usually lost in the guitar riffs. Not this guy, half the time he has his own riffs that are very different from the guitar but go together seamlessly. Also his riffs tend go together with the drums along with some really cool slapping and popping that are rarely heard in metal bands. To really get an idea of his talent SEE THEM LIVE!! So to some it up this album is amazing, though it may be hard to get used to once you do it will leave you wanting more. But if you just cant get used to L.D. 50 try out End of All Things to Come, different sound. Read more Less

  • All Music Guide

Mudvayne boasts a couple of elements that distinguish it from most contemporary heavy metal outfits. The band adopts bizarre facial makeup that is less suggestive of KISS than of a bunch of boys who, having failed to plan their Halloween costumes, threw something together by raiding their mother's vanity case. And lead singer Kud (they have funny pseudonyms, too) doesn't always sing in a typical hardcore howl, sometimes descending into a more conventional voice, as if he is auditioning to replace Sebastian Bach in the Broadway production of Jekyll Hyde. Such characteristics suggest that, for Mudvayne, the thrash style is something of a pose, a suspicion enhanced by reference to the CD booklet, which contains an acknowledgments section as lengthy and gushy as what you'd find on a teen-pop album. Can these guys giving thanks and love to family and friends be the same ones performing aggressive lockstep metal, spewing obscenities, and singing about suicide? It seems so, but it's hard to ...take seriously. Maybe deathcore has become as American as mom and apple pie in the 21st century. Or maybe Mudvayne is just going through the metal motions on the way to something else. (The "L.D." in the album's title refers to "lethal dose," and the "50" refers to a level of toxicity at which 50 out of 100 test animals will die.) - William Ruhlmann, All Music Guide Read more Less

Biography

Mudvayne

Heavy metal quartet Mudvayne formed in Peoria, IL, in 1996, its members adopting the unusual pseudonyms sPaG (M. McDonough) (vocals), Gurrg (G. Tribbett) (guitar), and Kud (C. Gray) (drums). The group's original bassist was replaced after two years by Ryknow (Ryan Martinie). During their development, the band members began the practice of applying bizarre makeup. After ... Read more
