    Krups FMF5

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 13, 2009

    Pros: makes coffee

    Cons: electronics, carafe

I owned a previous Krups with a thermal carafe, and that was a very good machine. One annoying thing about the fmf5 I own is that I can not turn off the default alarm bell that sounds twice when the machine turns on, and twice when the brewing cycle is over. But this does not compare to the horrible design of the carafe. Because of the internal lip, the only way to empty the carafe is to invert it. This makes it difficult to navigate the tiny gateway out of opening. I don't like using the carafe to fill the machine, and without that as a way to measure the amount of water, I am forced to rely on the bubble-filled measure on the outside of the machine, or to look inside the reservoir while I am filling it. It makes decent coffee. It just makes it very challenging.

Great for a boat or a coffee table

    By CHARLES  Sep 30, 2009

Pros: The carafe stays hot and is easily moved wherever you wish to have your second cup. It was great on the bridge of our trawler and now in our separate room where we enjoy the morning coffees.

Cons: None that have yet come to light.

We have the permanent strainer in use, not the paper cones, and except for a slight residue in the bottom, the coffee is delicious.

We use Chock Full of Nuts and no sugar or cream so the carafe is really all there is to it. Handy to take in the car also. The machine shuts itself off fairly quickly to save electricity and the coffee does not get that burned on the bottom that you get with a conventional glass carafe kept on a heated plate.

One of the best coffee makers I have had

    By Poxy  Sep 30, 2009

Pros: Consistantly good coffee, 0 problems

Cons: Side tube does get bubbles

I have had this machine about 2 years. The stainless thermal carafe and coffee maker seem well made and have given me 0 problems. Do not have to worry about a broke carage. I never make a full pot, but I always premeasure the water and put it in the reserviour. Not sure why they need a hot plate since the caraffe is thermal. I hate the taste of burnt coffee, this never gives that taste.
My water tastes good on its own so I do not use the charcoal filter. Easy to clean using vinegar.

Do not buy this coffee maker

By Mark  Sep 22, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Looks good

    Cons: Poor performance

After about one month, this coffee maker stopped working. The indicator said that there was not water, althought it was full. We sent it back for repairs which took about 5 weeks. What are you suppose to do for coffee for those 5 weeks? We bought a cheap Mr. Coffee Maker and it outperformed the Krupps. Also, there is a alarm that goes off when the burner is shutting off that can not be turned off.

I never take time to write reviews but this product is so bad, I just had to write in.

    A huge disappointment

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

Pros: Looks stylish and well made

    Cons: is not well made

Krups used to make some very good products. I have owned a couple of other models in the past that were superb. This one failed miserably. It leaks, bottom of the carafe falls off, the stop and pour feature broke immediately (the little gasket popped off), air bubbles form too easily in the water gauge, the black areas of the carafe scuff and scratch easily and overall it just seems shoddily manufactured. Not worth the money.

    Poor Quality, Quit Working

By Jon  Feb 5, 2009 | 2 out of 2 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

Pros: Worked for the 1st month

Cons: Quit working, ahd to send back

After 1 month of using this coffeemaker, it quit working. The message kept displaying that the water resivoir was empty. After much trouble shooting and wasting of time, i gave up and sent it back for repairs. I bought it online, and there return policy was basically non-existent.

Also the water level indicator never worked from the start. It will fill with air in between the water. I called Krups and the guy I talked confessed that the problem I was having was not that uncommon. They gave much a service center to send it to for repairs at my own shipping expense. Hoepfully I will get a working model back soon.

I will say I have had good luck with Krups coffe makers in the past, so hopefully I will get back a maker that works for longer than 1 month.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 5, 2009 | 1 out of 1 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Makes Coffee

    Cons: poor quality

Air bubbles form when you pour water in the tank, It's hard to fill with water and after one year of use the electronics failed. I can no longer program it or use the features I would expect from a $100.00 coffee maker.

    Cons outweigh Pros

    By VandalMJT  Feb 5, 2009

Pros: Good, fast pot of coffee

Cons: Air bubbles in measure tube, expensive water filtration

We got this as a wedding present, which was almost 3 years ago, so as far as durability I can't complain. However, it has some major flaws that would lead me to purchase another brand next time...
    1. Bubbles build up in the water measurement tube--annoying.
    2. The water filters are not easy to get as well as fairly expensive. So we've stopped using the water filtration thing altogether and use a Brita water jug from the fridge.
    3. The burner sometimes turns off automatically before I want it to.
    4. It's easy to spill water on the counter, and the carafe is a little tough to clean.

Okay product, but there's got to be something better out there for $100.

    Bubbles in the measuring tube

By John  Feb 5, 2009 | 0 out of 1 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Makes good coffee

Cons: Bubbles in the measuring tube

Good coffee maker but the design is flawed. It uses a measuring tube on the left side of the machine to tell you how many cups water you've put in so you'll know how much grinds to add. Bubbles always form in the measuring tube thus, it prevents you from getting an accurate measurement. Thus you you have to guess how many cups you of coffe you think you'll get and guess how much grinds to add. Being less accurate in the grinds to water ratio results in cofee that's too strong or too week.

By Peggy  Feb 5, 2009 | 0 out of 1 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Works great

Cons: Is pricey - but worth it

I've had mine for two years and love it. We use it every day. I love the stainless carafe and the fact that it does not continue to "burn" the coffee. I would definitely buy another - infact did buy one for my office that is also still going strong - and you know what a beating they can take.

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Aug 1, 2008 | 2 out of 3 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: who knows?

Cons: machine kept shutting off, so I never made coffee

The machine would work for about ten seconds, and shut off. I had to keep pressing the on button, which would get me ten more seconds. The customer help person couldn't help.
Back it went to the store.

Also - the instruction book had tiny print, very hard to read, and stingy with words.

    solid, but pricey, unit

By DL  Apr 15, 2008 | 4 out of 5 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: solid

    Cons: pricey

If a coffee maker can make one feel demeaned, it may be the fault of the user, not the machine.

I always that assumed a full coffee pot of water was required to brew a near same amount of coffee (when combined with fine ground coffee, and taking into account evaporation that occurs throughout the brewing process).

I guess I'm just old-fashioned that way. Anyway...

In a market filled with low-end, plastic leak machines, the Krups stands out in terms of high quality and, hopefully, given the hefty price tag, durability.

Looks stylish on your kitchen counter

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Feb 13, 2008 | 5 out of 6 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Makes you appear affluent

    Cons: Makes you feel stupid

Poorly designed and executed. The principal problem is that air bubbles form when you pour water in the tank. There is no simple way to measure water. I took back the first 2 assuming a quality control problem but it fails and it fails consistently.

The carafe is also built in such a way that it has to be turned completely over to pour out the last cup of coffee. I've never purchased such a poorly designed and manufactured product from what I assumed was a reputable company. It's like a Rolex you buy on the street that looks swell but doesn't tell time. I got this applaince paying retail from a trustworthy vendor. As long as you don't drink coffee you'll have a stylish accessory

    Krups coffee maker

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Dec 3, 2007 | 5 out of 5 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Stainless steel carafe

Cons: none that I am aware of

This Krups runs circles around my previous B&D coffee maker.

I do not have to bleach the Krup's lid (to the carafe) like I had to do with the B&D. The B&D had mold all inside the lid, and it was a job to get it out.

My coffee is hot with this Krup's, unlike the luke warm temp of the B&D.

The Krups has a stainless steel carafe, vs the glass carafe of the B&D.

You can't go wrong with this coffee maker.

    GOOD SO FAR!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jan 8, 2007 | 11 out of 15 found this Krups FMF5-14 review helpful

    Pros: Programmable,Good coffee,Attractive

    Cons: Pricey

I had to buy a new coffee maker on the spur of the moment after my Mr. Coffee maker, of 32 years, went to "coffee maker heaven" (RIP).

I did no research before going to the store. There weren't very many models to choose from at the store that I went to. Though I have only made two pots of coffee with mine so far, I feel like I made a pretty good choice.

I chose this coffee maker because it has a thermal carafe, the size of the pot, it's programmable, and it's attractive looks.

I think that the pot pours well, but you do pretty much have to tip it upside down to get the last drops out. Other reveiws I read elsewhere stated difficulty in programming, plastic odor and taste, and air bubbles in the water level viewer. I have not had any problem with any of these things at all.
