    Pros: Looks OK

    Cons: Coffee tastes like plastic, overdesigned

    Coffee does not taste good-has a plastic taste to it. I cleaned it repeatedly and expected it to improve as I used it but now, a month or two later it still tastes like plastic. Not sure if it's the materials used or if the water is too hot when going through the tubes. Also- the water filter probably isn't necessary (they just want to sell you more stuff), and the Krupps cone filter does not fit well.

    It failed to turn off recently even though the power button was pushed, light was off, it was not in program mode, and that was the last straw-it may have been on all night which is a fire hazard.

    Krups FME14 Coffee maker problem

    Pros: Good design, brews quickly

    Cons: Material of construction gives bad smell and taste

    I had read a review indicating that the model produced a bad and bitter tasting coffee. I did not believe it, since we used an older Krups coffee maker producing an excellent flavored coffee.
    Unfortunately when we opened the package, there was a terrible smell like burned plastic. We cleaned the unit with vinegar, but the coffee maker and the brewed coffe smelled bad and the coffee tasted bitter and like burned bakelite as well.
    We shipped the unit back to a Krups service center and are awaiting a reply.
    This is a unexpected and unacceptable quality control issue.

    Finally, hot coffee!

    Pros: Really hot coffee and solid construction.

    Cons: Lacks permanent gold filter.

    The secret to a good drip coffee machine can be summed up in a single word, HEAT. Without proper heat (180 degrees) you won't get all the flavor out of the coffee and you will need to reheat after adding milk or cream. No problem with this machine. I don't think there is a hotter drip machine out there, and the 1100 watt hot plate will keep your coffee hot.
