The Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 incorporates its 12x optical Mega Zoom lens and large 2.0-inch LCD monitor into a compact and easy to hold camera design. The DiMAGE Z6's built-in 12x optical zoom lens and 4x digital zoom capability combine for a total zoom range of 48x.

In addition, Konica Minolta's proprietary CCD-shift Anti-Shake system - the same system used in Konica Minolta's top-of-the-line Maxxum 7D digital Single Lens-Reflex (SLR) camera, and first featured in Konica Minolta's DiMAGE A series of digital cameras - allows photographers to shoot with shutter speeds four to eight times longer (2-3 stops) than when shooting without an Anti-Shake system. The system also provides steady, shake-free images in twilight or other dimly lit situations, which are susceptible to blurring because of the slow shutter speeds used. This means significantly sharper images even without the use of a flash or tripod.

The DiMAGE Z6 has everything photographers need to take high-quality pictures: 6.0 effective megapixels, high-performance GT APO lens, and Konica Minolta's proprietary CxProcess III image processing technology, which gives users images as beautiful as those they see with their own eyes.

Thanks to its energy-efficient design, the Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 lets users enjoy picture-taking longer with four widely available AA Alkaline batteries that power the camera for up to approximately 240 shots, as well as compatibility with high-capacity rechargeable Ni-MH batteries for up to approximately 420 shots.

To ensure that photographers don't miss a shot, the DiMAGE Z6 offers ultra-fast, accurate Rapid AF with Predictive Focus Control. Focusing in a mere 0.2 second at the wide-angle zoom position and only 0.3 second at the telephoto position, the DiMAGE Z6 is ideal for accurately capturing any subject, moving or still.

In addition to high-precision Rapid AF, the DiMAGE Z6 features a fast startup time and short shutter-release lag time. In addition, the camera's Progressive Capture drive mode records images continuously at approximately 1.8 frames per second regardless of image size or quality, and saves the last 10 frames simply by releasing the shutter button.

    First Time Digital Camera Buyer

Pros: 6mp, 12x zoom, Anti-Shake, superb battery life, macro & super macro

Cons: only 114,000 pixel screen, EVF resolution could be improved, Movie size could be larger

For my first digital camera the z6 definitely suites my needs. I have some experience with 35 mm, and I love this cameras manual control. This camers enables me to take shots and truly examine the exposure and learn more about photography without the... expense or time consumption of developing film. The camera has KM's unique anti-shake which actually moves the CCD sensor to stabilize the exposure. Macro and Super macro are outstanding and take photo composition to a new level, the super macro enables shots up to 1cm from the lens. That is about as tight as possible. Battery life is awesome i get over 350-400 shots on a set of 4 NiMH 2500. Live histogram is a nice detail, button layout and wayfinding is excellent if not the best of any camera i have seen. Menu layout is logical and easy to find. I think there is room for improvement though, the movie mode could be larger format, but I didnt buy the camera for that and if I was going to i would have bought the z5. The screen resolution is a tad grainy at 114,000 pixels but this is standard for cameras in this range, sony h-1 is the same but at 2.5 inch, it is really grainy. All together I am continually impressed with this camera, I love the features and its versatility. I do not regret the purchase one bit, as far as value it is the leader in its class and an excellent camera to segway into digital SLR's. Read more Less

    Great Features -- Good Value

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Oct 14, 2005 | 9 out of 9 found this Konica Minolta DiMAGE Z6 review helpful

Pros: Great picture quality, light balance, features

Cons: Not Easy for a Novice

Having just bought this camera and only using it for a few days, I was quite impressed with the features, settings, picture quality compared to the camera I stepped up from. I'm still trying to learn where they all are, but I'll get it. There... are too many menus in some points, but what you can do with this camera (I used to shoot a high end film camera), is most impressive. On the other hand, for the novice, by setting in Auto mode, anyone can certainly set it and forget it and take great pictures. Great camera for the price. Read more Less

    Konica Minolta DiMage Z6

Though attractively priced, this camera is short on features and its image quality disappointed us. For getting close to the action with your camera, a longer zoom is better. And the Konica Minolta DiMage Z6 has the look of a winner in that respect: Its 12X optical zoom is longer than most. And at a street price of $400, the DiMage Z6 is pretty cheap for an advanced camera. But a number of missing features make this a poor pick for advanced camera users who want extensive control over their pictures. Read more
