The DiMAGE A200 is a portable 8.0-megapixel SLR-type high performance digital camera that's perfect for everyone from novices to camera enthusiasts. Equipped with Anti-Shake technology, a CCD-Shift mechanism that can reduce handheld camera shake. Easy to capture sharp images, even in low lighting and without the use of a tripod.

With the rotating 1.8-inch TFT Vari-Angle LCD monitor, the photographer has always got a clear viewpoint for shooting artistic angles or taking flawless self-portraits. What's more, the DiMAGE A200's simplified operation means that everyone can make use of its advanced specifications that maximize picture taking opportunities and the fun of photography.

The 2/3-inch CCD with 8.0 million effective pixels and the high-performance Konica Minolta GT APO lens combine to give incredibly faithful smooth-toned colors. With its new advanced LSI engine and CxProcess III image-processing technology the DiMAGE A200 delivers high speed and stress free image processing with low power consumption. Its ability to suppress noise and give exceptionally accurate color reproduction means that users still get high-quality images every time.

Even novice users can avoid blurry pictures thanks to the proprietary Anti-Shake technology that employs a unique CCD-Shift mechanism. This stabilizing system is connected directly to a CCD sensor that quickly responds to camera shake thus producing finer images in dim light and with telephoto shots. Especially helpful when using the 4x digital zoom (maximum equivalent of 800mm) and high-performance 7x optical zoom (28 to 200mm). The DiMAGE A200's Anti-Shake technology is activated with the simple touch of a button. Its three focusing areas: Wide Focus Area, 11-point Selectable AF Area, and Flex Focus Point, combine in the DiMAGE A200 ensure that the subject is always in perfect focus.

A newly employed Vari-Angle TFT color LCD monitor can be rotated up to 270° vertically and 180° horizontally, allowing unrestricted shooting at high and low angles. The multi-functional wireless remote control included with the DiMAGE A200 makes it easier to take self-portraits and movies whenever and wherever. And because the LCD gives a high speed, real-time view 60fps, there's minimal lag time between the on-screen display and the trigger of the shutter release. So there's no need to worry about missing a photo opportunity.

The DiMAGE A200 allows the recording of movie clips in VGA mode (640 x 480 pixels at 30fps) for smooth true-color playback that rivals TV quality. SVGA mode (800 x 600 pixels at 15fps) which is ideal for viewing movies or movie stills on large PC screens. This gives users the freedom to choose the screen size and frame rate that suits their needs. Recording high-quality movies is even easier with Anti-Shake technology constantly minimizing image blur.

A200 - SLR Features, Point & Shoot Convenience

By Gerald  Jul 23, 2005 | 13 out of 13 found this Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 review helpful

Pros: Wealth of creative controls, 7x zoom, picture quality, movie mode, adjustable LCD

    Cons: None to date

The Konica Minolta A200 is the perfect blend of point and shoot convenience and SLR flexibility. Not only does it offer a 7X optical zoom lens with macro and 2x digital enhancement, there's also a full range of built in color filter, exposure, co...ntrast, white balance and saturation controls; the ability to work as true point and shoot or in full manual SLR-like mode to control shutter speed and f-stop; multiple focus zones; live histograms; multiple preset modes for portrait, sport, etc shooting; even the ability to save custom white balance settings and even save entire camera setups as custom modes. The 8MB resolution delivers sharp, bright images that can be saved as RAW or JPG files. The manual optical zoom control gives you infinite adjustment ability and even allows you to zoom while you're taking VGA quality movies. The adjustable LCD viewer lets you take pictures from any angle and see what you're taking. Remote control included. The operation is slick and logical Read more Less

    Great Camera!

By Mark  Dec 6, 2005 | 10 out of 10 found this Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 review helpful

Pros: Lens is Superb, Flip-out LCD Screen, Included Remote, etc...

Cons: Slow Autofocus in low light and shot to shot times are slow.

Did a lot of research and bought this camera because it is a great value. The A2 (previous model) is considered a better camera by some because of its better optical viewfinder, PC flash synch, and fast shot to shot perfomance. I decided on the A200 ...because it has a newer CCD sensor and in-camera software takes lower digital noise photos without the use of much noise reduction software. I only take this camera on travel and to take landscape photos, so the shooting speed and external flash were not an issue (although you can still buy an external flash through KM and use the A200 flash hotshoe). It would have been nice to have these plus the better optical viewfinder but I am sure KM excluded them to keep the cost down. The Good (expanded) This camera is a great choice for any serious amature photgrapher that does not want to deal with all the inconvenient issues assosiate with Digital SLR's. This camera produces low noise photos, a manual zoom ring, intuitive menu set (with customizable functions), flip-out and twist lcd screen, wireless remote, manual focus ability, and image stabilization. The 28-200mm 2.8-3.5 equivalent manual zoom lens(great for 90% of shooting conditions I do) is versital, bright, and high quality. This camera has allowed me to take the best macro shots I have ever taken. This is mostly do to the anti-shake mechanism built-into the camera, which allows me to hand-hold the camera instead of using a tripod. There a many buttons on the outside of the camera which allows you to change most of your shot values on the fly. The camera is lighter than most in its class and can shoot in RAW+JPEG at the same time. Lens filters are best when using a 49mm-62mm step-up ring. The Not So Good: No PC flash synch for after market flashes (must us KM's flashes). The optical viewfinder is not as clear as an SLR. Slow autofocus system, (sometimes hits, sometimes misses, but there is a feature where it tries to focus on a subject and if it has difficulty you can manually focus from where it left off). It would not be the best choice for sports photography because of the slow autofocus, but for travel and nature shots it is a great choice. The shot to shot times can be up to 8 seconds if you are shooting in RAW + JPEG (in all fairness though it is writing 20mb of data on your memory card). The write time is not a problem if you are shooting in high quality JPEG only though. Read more Less

    Konica Minolta DiMAGE A200 Review

The DiMAGE A200 takes much of what is appealing about the A2 and repackages it in a more affordable, friendlier and slightly more compact format. There's much to like here - the useful 28-200mm zoom range, the superb mechanical zoom, the wealth of photographic feature, the effective Anti-Shake system and the excellent handling, all at a much more attractive price point than the A2. The obvious conclusion to be drawn from the launch of this camera is that a major upgrade to the A2 must be waiting in the wings - I think this will be the last time we see this lens (originally used around four years ago in the DiMAGE 7) used on a high-end Konica Minolta camera; it simply can't cut the mustard with today's high resolution sensors and high consumer expectations. Of course corners have been cut - the A200 is lighter and smaller partly due to the more extensive use of plastics in its construction (not that this makes it feel in any way 'cheap'), and some of the features (most notably the st...
