Synopsis: Kiss Me Goodbye (1982)

In this delightful remake of the Brazilian film DOÑA FLOR AND HER TWO HUSBANDS, a widow, Kay (Sally Field), finally moves back into the home she left after her spouse's death three years earlier, determined to let go of old memories of her popular, playful husband, Jolly (James Caan), and leap into her upcoming marriage to Rupert (Jeff Bridges), a stuffy Egyptologist....
In this delightful remake of the Brazilian film DOÑA FLOR AND HER TWO HUSBANDS, a widow, Kay (Sally Field), finally moves back into the home she left after her spouse's death three years earlier, determined to let go of old memories of her popular, playful husband, Jolly (James Caan), and leap into her upcoming marriage to Rupert (Jeff Bridges), a stuffy Egyptologist. But the ghost of Jolly, who appears only to Kay, has something to say to her about remarrying, and Kay begins to have doubts about her future happiness just as everyone around her starts worrying about her sanity. Kay, Jolly, and Rupert develop an unlikely, otherworldly ménage à trois as the wedding inexorably approaches and forces Kay to decide where her heart belongs. The talented cast, guided by the light touch of director Robert Mulligan (SUMMER OF '42), dives lustily and wholeheartedly into the film's wonderfully cockeyed mix of romance, comedy, and the macabre.

    Pros: Loved the lines

    I have watched this movie over and over and have rented it many times. I still find it amusing and yet, there is a message there as well; being: "It's time to Let Go of the past" - "It's OK to move on after the death of a belov...ed spouse" I love the laughs. One of my favorite sceens is when Sally Field, Jeff Bridges and James Caan arrive at the INN and both Jeff and James are, basically, making remarks (Caan's remarks requiring answers) and Sally says "Will you shut up!" and the Inn keeper is a bit shocked because she cannot SEE Caan and thinks that Sally is talking to her. The entire thought of this movie having any reality in it is a little unnerving, however, it was done in a Fun Loving manner and with taste - so it makes you feel that you are there, experiencing the situation - every single time you watch it. I prefer the romantic comedies and this one is at the top of my FAVORITES! Thanks to Sally Field, James Caan and Jeff Bridges. Read more Less
