The brothers of Kings of Leon grew up under the Pentecostal rule of their evangelist father during the late eighties and nineties. Music was a major part of their upbringing, for their Dad would play The Rolling Stones and Neil Young for his three sons while traveling across the southern United States. Kings of Leon -- Caleb (guitar), Nathan (drums) and Jared (bass) Followill -- spent much of their childhood and young adult life moving in and around America's heartland. They spent time in Oklahoma and Tennessee before making Nashville their permanent home in 1998. There, Kings of Leon started focusing on music. By 2000, Kings of Leon - taking Leon from the names of their father and paternal grandfather - was born. Their cousin, Matthew Followill joined within months and a gritty southern garage rock quickly emerged. A deal with RCA followed in 2001 and their a self-titled EP appeared two years later.
