    Kingdom Hearts II PlayStation 2

Pros: Many improvements over the previous game; fixed camera angle and new gameplay dynamics; tons of guest appearances and cameos; wonderfully rich familiar environments; excellent voice acting and music.

Cons: The standard level of difficulty is far too easy; some of the square characters are given horrible dialogue; gameplay relies too heavily on button mashing.

Kingdom Hearts II is the long-awaited sequel to the 2002 Disney/Square collaboration Kingdom Hearts. Picking up the story where the former game--and the interim Game Boy Advance release, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories--left off, Kingdom Hearts II ...guides you through a series of Disney-themed worlds as you encounter a cast of characters that reads straight off the credits of some of the most popular Square games and Disney movies. Though the formula in KHII is quite familiar, much of the gameplay has changed, and it's safe to say that it's been for the better. Fans of the original game and of Disney/Square properties in general will fall in love with this game quite easily, though a few problems with the basic gameplay prevent Kingdom Hearts II from being whole-heartedly recommendable to everyone else. Goofy is actually quite the sage in this game. In KHII you reprise the role of Sora, a young boy who happens to have just the right mojo for wielding the keyblade. The keyblade is a weapon that is, aptly, useful both as a key to unlock other worlds and as a method for destroying the heartless, a species of monster that is taking over the otherwise peaceful Disney lands at the behest of Sleeping Beauty's very evil Maleficent. The crux of the game has you, Sora, traveling from one land to another with companions Donald Duck and Goofy to dispel the heartless and to rescue friends of yours that are missing. Along the way, you'll join forces with the heroes and heroines of Square, Disney, and The Nightmare Before Christmas. For people enthused with these properties, Kingdom Hearts II is a wonderful experience in which every character interaction gives you the opportunity to live through some of the magic moments of these movies and games. As an action role-playing game, Kingdom Hearts II gives you a certain amount of freedom, both in determining your characters' attributes and in resigning yourself to standard combat. You'll be able to do a little bit of both or a lot of one or the other, depending on your preferences. Seasoned role-playing gamers will be able to spend plenty of time perfecting the allocation of their attributes (or abilities), synthesizing new items, and grinding to level up, while those less interested in the role-playing aspects can breeze through the main gameplay without paying much attention to statistics. Pros: Good, strong storyline, great graphics, fun new worlds, new characters, new fighting system that is more interactive

Cons: A lot easier when compared to the first, not very challenging, filling Jiminy's journal

This was an awesome sequel to the first Kingdom Hearts. Even though the battles seem to be easier and the game not as challenging as the first, it is still definitely worth getting or at least playing. It has a very strong storyline that is better th...an the first in my opinion. And instead of pressing "x" continuously in battle, you can press other buttons at the right moment to do combos and finishing moves. I give this game a 9.5 out of 10. Read more Less

WORLDS ON THE GAME!!! Oh yeah and Chicken Little and Stitch as summons. Read more Less

Pros: Beautiful art,Superb voice acting & music, tons of Disney & Final Fantasy characters.

Cons: not much adventure, magic is useless, camera sometimes is still a pain.

In 2002, Square Enix and Disney released a game called Kingdom Hearts,in which they put together the idea of Square's characters & Disney's characters, and a lot of people thought at first that this one was not gonna work. But, soon everybody... played it and loved it. Then comes Chain of Memories for the GBA, which continued the storyline, but wasn't much in the gameplay department. Now, in 2006, 4 years after the original (for those who suck at math), we finally get Kingdom Hearts II. This game greatly improves over the original, but even at that, there's still something missing to keep it from being the best. Graphics: 10/10 Let's get one thing straight first. The PS2 is not considered the graphical powerhouse of the consoles (even though some titles have been proving them wrong). This game doesn't change anything as far as realism goes. But, they do pay a great amount of attention to detail. Every Disney-movie-themed world looks exactly like the movie did, even down to your menu screen. Every movie character looks exactly like they should (Exhibit A: Capt. Jack Sparrow). Also, any other characters look pretty good too. The cut-scenes are very well done. The opening one specifically is great. This game proves that even if the characters aren't very realistic, attention to detail is always better. The game's soundtrack is remarkable. If you like the songs from the Disney movies, then you'll like this. The voice acting is amazing, This game is told through excellent voice acting from such well-known names as James Woods and Geoffrey Rush, and through numerous cameo appearances of other beloved and infamous Disney characters such as Aladdin, Ariel and Capt. Jack Sparrow. The Final Fantasy 7 characters were voiced by the same people who did the characters in FF7: Advent Children (the characters also sport their AC outfits), a nice little nod to the movie. But IMO,the Disney's got better voice-acting than the Square's characters. Gameplay 8/10 They have definitely changed a lot since the last one. Firstly, there is a new button called the Reaction Command, which, when pressed at certain times, will do different things. This comes in handy with boss fights. Also, there's a new feature called "Drives". This allows Sora to combine himself with one or both party members to become a two-keyblade wielding ass-kicking machine. Drives also have their own meter to use. Summons are also used with this meter. Now then, all these new features are nice, but here's the main problem: THIS GAME IS TOO EASY! You can just button mash and win most of the time (exception is a few boss fights). I didn't have to use offensive magic ONCE. Story: 8/10 At first it seems confusing because you don't start as Sora. You actually start playing as a new guy by the name of Roxas. In case your wondering, Sora and Roxas are connected in a way but I don't want to spoil it for you. So KH2 is the continuation of Kingdom Hearts 1 & Kingdom Hearts:Chain of Memories where Sora and company have to find their lost friends ( Riku and King Mickey). There's also a rather interesting main plot involving the heartless, nobodies, and a group called Organization XIII. The plot include several delightful twists and turns that make it all the more interesting to play through.Trust me, if you don't like confusing stories, this one ain't for you. It's actually one of the least confusing stories ever. Still, people who have played the other games will fit right in. Overall : 9/10 = 4.5/5 = round up to 5/5 (am i bias here??) This game is a must buy for anyone that's into action RPG's. There's a lot of unlockable stuff as side missions for people who like depth and replay in their single player RPGs. Expect about a 30-hour playthrough without bothering with the sidequests, and a 50-hour game if you go through them.Almost every aspect of this game is incredib Read more Less

    Kingdom Hearts 2 - A new hit

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Jul 10, 2008

    Pros: fantasticly good

Cons: Story doesn't have the fix to fascinate the gamers

The next release in the very popular series of Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts 2: Ultimania has created another success, improved almost perfectly in Sound, Graphic and Gameplay from KH1. In this story, Sora, Donald, Goofy had a new enemy: The Oganiza...tion XIII, or known as the head of the Nobodies, a kind of creature created from the shells that the Hearts have left behind when it became the Heartless. The story provides many new characters, including a playable character Roxas, the Nobody of Sora, since he has opened himself to free Kairi's heart in KH1's ending. But Kairi, too, had her heart stucked in Sora for a quite a time, so Namine was born from her, as the Nobody that erased Sora's memories in the Oblivion castle. More characters will eventually join the party, including Riku, who had escaped from the other side of Kingdom Hearts, and stayed in the shape of Xeanort's heartless. King Mickey will, too help Sora on the way. In hard mode, when you are defeated by a boss, King Mikey will show up- if you choose- to heal Sora. However, the enemies are pretty strong and have unique powers too. In Final Mix+, a fight with Roxas are available. The storyboard provided by Disney will go on, such as Pirates of the Caribbean (part 1), Mulan, Aladin and so on. In The Little Mermaid's world, the story with Ariel will become a 4-buttons musical game. The gameplay will be more of an action-RPG, since the additional Action Commands and the Drive Bar has been added. The game is expected by many gamers all over the world, since it hit 2.5mil shipped since 28th March. So far there has been cheats, provided through cheat disks like GameSharks, etc. These cheats made the game more opened, like we can play as more characters and be able to use their abilities (Such as Riku with Dark Aura, Mikey with the high jumps, fast attack and Roxas wielding 2 Keyblades. Square Enix and Disney told that there will be Kingdom Hearts version for PS3, PSP, mobile and Nintendo DS. However, these games are still in process and is told to be released somewhere around 2009.
