Pro Reviews: King of Chicago Blues Piano, Vols. 1-2

  • All Music Guide

A slightly truncated CD version of the RCA two-record set that first anthologized the thundering 1940s RCA Bluebird sides of pianist Big Maceo (25 cuts on the CD, 32 on the vinyl). The CD opens with Maceo's immortal blues "Worried Life Blues," and closes with his instrumental tour de force "Chicago Breakdown," and boasts a great deal of blues piano magic in between.
