New York's King Missile started out as King Missile (Dog Fly Religion) and were one of the bands on producer Kramer's Shimmy-Disc axis. They were originally led by guitarist Dogbowl, who took the "Dog Fly Religion" portion of the name with him when he left the group. Their current lineup includes vocalist John S. Hall, frequent Bongwater guitarist Dave Rick, and multi-instrumentalist Chris Xefos. Hall's lyrics are a strange, often humorous brand of prose poetry, really more monologues than songs. The band had a sizable novelty hit with "Detachable Penis," which grew out of a crack Hall made at the end of a concert about the title of the band's next single.
