Cold as the arctic BUT...LOUD AS A JET ENGINE!!

By Yahoo! Shopping User  Sep 16, 2007 | 9 out of 11 found this Kenmore 76081 review helpful

Pros: Really chills the room down; timer feature useful, too.

    Cons: Unbelievably, ridiculously L - O - U - D!

I recommend this air conditioner to deaf people who live in warm climates. It will cool your room beautifully. But if you are not deaf, the ear-splitting, droning, thrumming sound of this poorly-designed machine's motor may make you that way. ...You certainly won't be able to sleep with this monster on, even if you wear earplugs. It's low-pitched, decibel-heavy humming will vibrate the walls and floor of your bedroom! And don't count on Sears to help you once you've gotten it installed, either! I asked them what I had to do to exchange it for a quieter model, and they sent a service person out to inspect it first (took him three weeks to get here). He listened to it for 10 minutes (before it hits the jet-engine cycle), ridiculed my complaints and told me that the machine was normal. I own a Kenmore freezer, a Kenmore fridge, a Kenmore range and a Kenmore vacuum cleaner. But I'll be da--ed if you'll ever see me shopping in that store again! They could be giving appliances away, and I'd still refuse to cross that threshold. I have hundreds invested in this model, its delivery and installation, but next summer I'm donating it to a school for the deaf and buying a machine that will let me sleep at night. Read more Less

    MONEY SAVER

By Sassy Lou  Jul 29, 2009

Pros: Money saver and options for energy saving

Cons: Small remote stopped working middle of second year.

I love this unit. I have animals at home so I want to make sure the room stays around 75 degrees even when I'm away for days. This unit shuts itself down when the room reaches that temperature..and starts back up when it rises 2 or 3 degrees abov...e. So if the temperature outside drops to 74 or lower..the unit just stays off. Fantastic!!!The amount of energy you save is incredible. My electric bill hardly changed from a month where I did not use an air conditioner..and jumped only $15 to $20 more in June and July. Previous years..my bill would be double or triple than normal using older air conditioner without the Energy Saver feature. The remote suddenly does no work..I tried 3 different sets of batteries..so I'm going to see if I can get a replacement.
