Ken Maynard performed as a trick rider with the Buffalo Bill and the Ringling Brothers Wild West shows and was once a rodeo champion. In 1923 he entered films, soon becoming a major cowboy star; he was especially popular among children for his riding stunts on his horse Tarzan.
