Massapequa, NY, native Kathy Fleischmann is a gifted singer and songwriter. She began learning how to play the violin in the third grade, but gave it up after a couple of years. She went on to study both guitar and voice in her teens. In 1989 she left her home state to move to Florida. She performed often around her new sunny residence, and became a main member of alternative groups like Big Tall Wish and Poetic Injustice. In 1993 Fleischmann took her talents solo on a self-produced debut, Anamorphosis. A year later she had a six-track EP, Speaking Guillotine, ready for release. Her next work was Sympathetic Coffee, released in 1996, which carries all of the tunes from Speaking Guillotine, and six others to go with them. In 1998, Fleischmann finished up another album titled Ten Doors Down. Her music, mostly original number, is a smooth mixture of blues, pop, and progressive folk. Fleischmann travels a lot, playing at clubs and coffeehouses. She has lent her vocal skills on a number of recordings released by other musicians, and opened for artists like the Mavericks and Roger McGuinn. ~Xs Magazine and Miami New Times have both voted her Best Acoustic Performer. For 2000 Fleischmann recorded Live from the Cutting Room. "Graveyard Dream Blues," "Wild Strawberries," "Concrete Blankets," "Manhattan," and "Figure 8's" are some of the tunes fans can hear her play live on stage, or find on her recordings.
