Cherniavsky was the front man for the "Yiddish American Jazz Band," which, as its name suggests, took a traditional klezmer lineup and blended it with modern American dance styles such as the fox-trot. Featuring virtuoso clarinetists Naftule Brandwein and Dave Tarras, the Band was immensely popular on the Yiddish dancehall circuit.
