Long a talented tenor saxophonist able to fit into a wide variety of advanced settings, John Stubblefield's strong abilities have often been taken for granted. He moved to Chicago as a young player, joined the AACM, studied with Muhal Richard Abrams, and made his recording debut in 1968 with Joseph Jarman.
